Reunion board for 19 October 2026 at the start: a seven-row letter grid with green and yellow tiles, a fox tile at the top and a hedgehog tile at the bottom, 0 moves

Reunion is Merriam-Webster's daily letter-swap puzzle. The letters of a grid of crossing words are mixed up, along with a fox and a hedgehog, and you drag tiles to swap them until every word reads true and the two animals end up side by side. Fewer moves earn more stars, and a harder Extreme grid runs beside the Classic one.

About Reunion

Reunion is a free word puzzle on the Merriam-Webster games site. Each day brings a seven-row grid of crossing words whose letters have been shuffled. Some tiles already sit in their right place and show green; the rest are scattered, and you put them back by dragging one tile onto another to swap them.

Two animal tiles, a fox and a hedgehog, are mixed in with the letters. They break a column into two shorter words, and they have to be moved too: when every letter is right, the two end up next to each other somewhere on the board, across, up and down or diagonally. That is the reunion the game is named for.

Colour guides each swap. Green means the letter is in its spot. Yellow means it belongs somewhere else in the same row or column. White means that row and column do not need it at all. A tile can change from yellow to white after a move elsewhere, so the hints shift as the board fills in. Every word is at least three letters long.

Every swap counts as a move, and the fewer you use the more stars you earn. There are two puzzles a day: Classic, and Extreme, which starts with fewer green tiles and harder words. Their stats and streaks are kept apart, and an archive holds past days.

Reunion suits players who like Waffle's swap solving but want a larger grid with a little extra to plan around, and anyone who already plays Merriam-Webster's other dailies such as Blossom and Quordle.

How to play Reunion

  1. Open the day's puzzle and choose Classic or Extreme.
  2. Look over the grid: green tiles are already in their right place.
  3. Drag a tile onto another to swap the two; the fox and hedgehog tiles can be swapped like letters.
  4. Read the colours: yellow means the letter belongs elsewhere in its row or column, white means neither needs it.
  5. Keep swapping until every letter is green; the fox and hedgehog then sit next to each other, and your move count sets your stars.

Tips

  • Find the long word first; its letters are the easiest to place and they fix many crossings.
  • A yellow tile at a crossing may belong to its row or its column, so check both before you move it.
  • Look for swaps that turn both tiles green at once; those save the most moves.
  • Work out where the animals must go early: they split a column, so the words on either side of them tell you their spot.
  • Play Classic before Extreme to warm up on the day's style.

Questions

Is Reunion free?

Yes. It plays in the browser on the Merriam-Webster site, with ads on the page, and the daily needs no account.

How many Reunion puzzles are there each day?

Two: a Classic puzzle and a harder Extreme puzzle, both new each day and the same for everyone. Their stats and streaks are kept separately.

Can I play old Reunion puzzles?

Yes. The archive lists past puzzles by date.

What do the colours mean in Reunion?

Green means the letter is in its correct spot. Yellow means it belongs somewhere else in the same row or column. White means that row and column do not need it.

What are the fox and hedgehog for?

They are tiles you move like letters. They split a column into two words, and once every letter is right the two animals sit next to each other on the board.
