Overheard is a small daily reading puzzle. Two people talk in up to five or six short lines, and you pick their relationship from a list of eight: coworkers or work rivals, boss and employee, siblings, ex-partners, old friends and more. Reveal fewer lines and guess right to do better.
About Overheard
Overheard asks you to read the room. Each day's puzzle is a short exchange between two speakers, A and B, five or six lines long. You start with only the first line or two and can click to reveal the next sentence. At any point you can choose an answer from a list of eight relationships, which changes with the puzzle: coworkers, work rivals, boss and employee, roommates, a new couple, ex-partners, siblings, old friends, teacher and student or strangers, among others.
Wrong guesses are crossed out, and the round ends after three of them, when the full dialogue is shown. The fun is in the subtext: a line like 'Well, enjoy the promotion' reads very differently between friends and between rivals. Puzzles are tagged by difficulty, and the hardest ones hinge on a single word.
The game is free in the browser. Logging in saves your statistics, including how many clues you used in each win. Everyone gets the same dialogue each day, so results are easy to compare.
It suits players who enjoy word games but want something about tone and meaning rather than spelling.
The puzzles are written into the game in batches, one per date. When a batch runs out, the game shows its first puzzle again until new ones are added, so the daily has had gaps: from late September to early October 2026, and again from 15 October.

Tips
- Look for who gives orders and who asks permission; it separates boss and employee from coworkers.
- Shared history ('like last time') points to old friends, siblings or exes rather than strangers.
- Guess early only when a line clearly gives it away; revealed lines count, but wrong guesses end the round.
Questions
How often is there a new Overheard puzzle?
One a day by your device's date, the same dialogue for every player, while the game's list of puzzles lasts. On days the list has no entry, the first puzzle is shown again.
How many guesses do I get?
Three wrong guesses end the round.
Do I need an account?
No. Logging in saves your statistics, but the daily plays without it.
