Music Timeliner is a daily song-dating game from Steady Koalas. Each day one song sits on a timeline and you hear seven more, one at a time, and drop each where you think its release year falls. A wrong guess moves the card to its true place in red, so you keep playing with a better map. Past days, an endless mode with three lives and a custom timeline builder sit beside the daily.
About Music Timeliner
Music Timeliner is a free web game from Steady Koalas, the small Swedish studio that also makes Movie Timeliner. It takes the idea of party card games that sort songs by release date and turns it into a shared daily set. The meta keywords even name Hitster.
Each day brings eight songs, numbered from the restart of the daily in late September 2026. The first card is already on the line with its year showing. A blurred cover with a play button holds the next song. Press it to hear a short Deezer preview, then drag the card to the spot on the timeline where you think it belongs. A correct guess turns green. A wrong one slides to its real place and turns red, so the line always stays in true order and every card you have seen becomes a landmark for the next.
On 26 October 2026 the set ran from Frank Sinatra's Mam'selle (1947) to Olivia Rodrigo's lacy (2023), with blink-182, Queen, Morrissey, Rammstein, Cascada and 21 Savage in between. The spread across decades and genres is the point: you date records by their sound, the drum production, the vocal style, the mix, without needing to name them.
You get one skip per game for a song you cannot place. Hard mode, switched on before you start, keeps the years of placed cards hidden until the end. Your stats and streak are kept in the browser, with a transfer code to move them to another device.
Beyond the daily there is an archive of every past day, an Endless mode where you keep placing songs until you lose three lives, and a builder for custom timelines that you can share by code. The site carries no ads and needs no account.
How to play Music Timeliner
- Open today's daily. One song is already on the timeline with its release year.
- Press the play button on the blurred cover to hear a preview of the next song.
- Drag the card onto the timeline, before, between or after the songs already there.
- Watch the card turn green if you were right. If not, it moves to its real place in red.
- Repeat until all eight songs are on the line, using your one skip if a track stumps you.
- Check your score and share it, then try a past day from the archive or a run of Endless.

Tips
- Listen to the production as much as the tune. Reverb, drum machines and the loudness of a mix date a record quickly.
- Cards you place wrong still land in the right spot, so use them as anchors for the songs that follow.
- Save the skip for a song you truly cannot hear an era in.
- Try Hard mode once you know the eras well. It removes the years you would otherwise lean on.
