JigWild board for Daily #97: a sunflower photo cut into 18 muddled tiles, 0 of 18 in place, a hint button and a strip of past days below

JigWild is a gentle daily picture puzzle with one photo from the natural world each day, the same for everyone. The photo starts as 18 muddled tiles, and you drag tiles to swap places until the picture is whole. When it is done you get one small fact about the plant or creature.

About JigWild

JigWild, by Vivienne Andrews, is a short daily puzzle played on its own website, with a page on itch.io. Each day brings one picture from nature, such as a sunflower, a pair of capybaras, cherry blossom, a tree frog, an eagle-owl or a humpback whale, and every player gets the same one.

The photo is cut into 18 rectangular tiles, six across and three down, and they start out of order on the board. You drag one tile onto another to swap them, and a bar under the board counts how many are in the right place. There is no countdown, and you get three hints if you are stuck.

When the picture is complete, a card names the species, gives a Did you know fact about it, shows how long you took and credits the photographer, mostly from Pixabay. A button saves today's picture as a share card. A strip of past days under the board lets you play any of the other pictures. The game ends with a nudge to close the tab and go outside to find the real thing.

The pictures come from a fixed bank of 12 that runs in order from day one, 18 July 2026, so the same photo comes back every 12 days; the site invites players to send in a photo for a future daily. JigWild is free, with no ads and no sign-up. The same maker also made Chromoku, a colour-based sudoku.

How to play JigWild

  1. Open JigWild and press Play today's piece to see the muddled picture.
  2. Drag a tile onto another to swap their places.
  3. Watch the counter under the board to see how many of the 18 tiles are in the right spot.
  4. Use one of the three hints if you get stuck.
  5. When the picture is complete, read the fact about the plant or animal and share the card if you like.

Tips

  • Start with pieces that have strong edges, such as sky, water or the border of the subject.
  • Find the eyes or the centre of a flower first; the rest falls into place around them.
  • Want more? The past days strip lets you play the other pictures in the bank.

Questions

Is the JigWild picture the same for everyone?

Yes. There is one picture each day, the same for everyone. The order the tiles start in is shuffled for each player.

Is JigWild free?

Yes. It is free in the browser with no ads and no sign-up.

When does the picture change?

At midnight by your own device's date.

Do the pictures repeat?

Yes. So far the game draws from a bank of 12 photos in a fixed order, so each one comes back every 12 days.

Can I play other pictures?

Yes. A strip of past days under the board lets you pick any picture in the bank.
