The HeatmapQuest title on a dark background between two glowing red globes

HeatMapQuest shades a 3D globe country by country according to a statistic it does not name, and you choose the right one from four options. There are four rounds a day, each starting at four stars and losing one per wrong answer, and your stars become points on weekly and monthly leaderboards.

About HeatMapQuest

HeatMapQuest is a daily geography game by the independent developer C3-Peyo, part of a small family of Quest games that also includes HistoriaQuest, TerraeQuest and CrossMapQuest. It runs in English and French.

Each day's session has four rounds, generated on the server from the date so that every player gets the same ones. In a round the globe is coloured with a gradient by one country statistic, picked from a data set of 194 independent countries: population, GDP per capita, life expectancy, forest cover, coffee consumption and many more. You spin the globe, study where the colours are deepest, and choose the statistic from four options, one right and three decoys. There is no card or number to compare, only the pattern on the map.

A round starts at four stars and each wrong answer removes one. Stars turn into points, with a bonus that grows with your daily streak, and the points feed weekly and monthly leaderboards and private leagues. After a round you see a percentile against other players, and a share card shows your stars without the answers. Past days can be replayed from the archive without points, and a weekly Survival mode runs a timed sequence of rounds with five lives.

Some statistics look alike on the globe, such as the Human Development Index and life expectancy; the FAQ says that is expected rather than a bug, which makes reading the small differences part of the game.

How to play HeatMapQuest

  1. Open HeatMapQuest and start the day's first round.
  2. Rotate the 3D globe and look at which countries are coloured most and least strongly.
  3. Pick the statistic you think the colours show from the four options.
  4. Each wrong pick costs a star; a round starts with four.
  5. Play all four rounds, then share your star grid and check the leaderboard.

Tips

  • Check a few telling countries first: Gulf states for GDP per capita, Japan for life expectancy, Bangladesh for density.
  • When two options would look alike, look at the outliers that separate them, such as small rich states or large empty ones.
  • Spin the whole globe before answering; Africa and Europe alone can mislead.
  • Play every day if you care about the leaderboard; the streak bonus grows by 2 percent a day up to 25 percent.

Questions

When does HeatMapQuest reset?

At midnight UTC, when a new four-round session starts.

Is the daily the same for everyone?

Yes. The session is generated from the date on the server and is identical for every player.

How is a round scored?

It starts at four stars and loses one for each wrong answer. Stars become points, with a bonus for your streak.

Can I play past days?

Yes, from the archive, but archive games do not earn points or count for streaks.

Do I need an account?

No. A nickname and an identifier are created on your device after your first game; an account adds synced progress and more stats.
