Football Wordle on 26 October 2026: a six-letter grid with two footballer guesses, Castro and Larsen, marked in orange and dark tiles, above the on-screen keyboard

Football Wordle hides one footballer's surname each day, taken from the Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1. You guess with the surnames of real players, and the tiles turn green or orange to show which letters you have. After three misses you can ask for a clue letter. Separate daily boards for Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool sit in the menu.

About Football Wordle

Football Wordle is a Wordle where every guess and every answer is a footballer's surname. The grid shows how long today's name is, and the length changes from day to day. You type the surname of a player from one of Europe's top five leagues and press enter. A green tile is a letter in the right place, an orange tile is a letter in the name but in another place, and a dark tile is a letter the name does not have. You get six guesses.

The guess list is the game's own list of players, so a made-up word or a misspelt name is turned away with "Player not found". That means you cannot test letters with any word you like. Your football knowledge has to supply surnames of the right length, and the colours do the rest. Today's answer comes from a list of about 1,800 names that runs from stars to squad players at smaller clubs. If you are stuck after three guesses, a "Want a clue?" button shows one letter, and "Give up?" ends the day.

The menu holds three club boards as well: Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool, each with its own daily surname from that club's past and present players. Their lists are much shorter, between about 100 and 190 names, so their answers come round again within months. A calendar button above the grid opens earlier days. A timer runs while you play, and a stats panel keeps your success rate, streak and guess spread.

The site is free and needs no account. It carries ads from several networks and points to the maker's other game, Guess Who Football, which has phone apps. It suits football fans who already play Wordle and want a short daily puzzle that tests how many surnames they know.

How to play Football Wordle

  1. Open the game and count the boxes in a row. That is the length of today's surname.
  2. Type the surname of a player from the top five European leagues with that many letters and press enter.
  3. Read the tiles. Green is a right letter in the right place, orange is a right letter in the wrong place, and dark means the letter is not in the name.
  4. Pick your next player to fit what the colours told you. You have six guesses.
  5. After three guesses you can press Want a clue? to reveal a letter, or Give up? to see the answer.
  6. When you finish, share your result and come back after midnight for a new footballer.

Tips

  • Keep a few surnames of each length in your head, from five to eight letters, before you start.
  • Open with a name that has several common vowels and consonants, such as one with A, E, R and S.
  • A guess has to be on the game's player list. If a name is refused, try the spelling the clubs use, without accents.
  • The calendar button lets you play missed days, which is a good way to learn which names the list holds.

Questions

How many guesses do you get in Football Wordle?

Six. After three you can ask for a clue that shows one letter.

Do I guess the first name or the surname?

The surname. Every guess must be a real player's surname on the game's list, with as many letters as the grid has boxes.

Which players can be the answer?

The main board picks from players of the Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1. The Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool boards pick from those clubs' players.

When does Football Wordle reset?

At midnight on your own device's clock. A countdown shows the time to the next footballer when you finish.

Can I play past days?

Yes. The calendar button above the grid goes back to earlier days.

Is Football Wordle free?

Yes. It runs in the browser with ads and needs no account.
