Echoes is a daily sliding puzzle where one chip copies your moves. You slide green chips around a small grid, and each time the yellow chip slides the same way until something stops it; park it on the red dot in as few moves as you can.
About Echoes
Echoes is played on a five by five grid with four green chips, one yellow chip and a red target dot. You never move the yellow chip yourself. Tapping a green chip lights up the squares it can slide to, and tapping one sends it sliding in a straight line until another chip or the wall stops it.
Every time you move, the yellow chip echoes you: it slides in the same direction until a chip or a wall stops it. The puzzle is to set the green chips up as blockers and pick your directions so the yellow chip comes to rest on the red dot.
Each board has a par, and the result screen says how many moves you took against it (today's board, #42, has a par of 4). It also shows a slide profile with a coloured square per move for how far the yellow chip slid, and the final board, all of which you can copy to share. A perfect echo needs every move to carry the yellow chip some distance. You can undo and redo, turn on a marker that shows where the yellow chip will land, and switch to yesterday's board, the only past day it keeps.
Echoes is made by Timothy W, runs in the browser on a phone or a computer with no account, and refreshes at midnight Eastern Time. It suits players who like short move-count puzzles in the style of Ricochet Robots.
How to play Echoes
- Tap a green chip to see the squares it can slide to.
- Tap a lit square: the chip slides straight that way until a chip or the wall stops it.
- Watch the yellow chip slide the same direction until a chip or wall stops it.
- Repeat until the yellow chip rests on the red dot, using as few moves as you can; par is shown when you finish.
- Copy your efficiency, slide profile and final board to share.

Tips
- Place a green chip where you want the yellow chip to stop before sending it that way.
- Use the show-where-it-lands option to check a move before committing.
- Moves that do not slide the yellow chip cost efficiency, so try to make every move count twice.
Questions
When does Echoes refresh?
The site says puzzles refresh daily at 00:00 ET, midnight Eastern Time.
Can I play an older puzzle?
Only yesterday's. A Play yesterday's button switches between today's board and the one before it; there is no archive of earlier days.
How is Echoes scored?
By moves against the board's par. The result says, for example, that you solved it in 4/4 moves, and a slide profile shows how far the yellow chip moved on each turn.
