Impound's board for 19 Oct 2026: a 7 by 7 lot of coloured blocks, the red block in the middle row facing the exit on the right, perfect 17 and par 21 above it

Impound is a free daily sliding-block puzzle from Mind Loft, the middle size of its family. On a seven by seven lot about twenty blocks each slide along one axis only, and you move them until the red block reaches the gap in the right-hand wall, aiming for par or the proven minimum.

About Impound (Mind Loft)

Impound is Parker on a bigger lot. The board is seven by seven, with around twenty blocks that can each slide only along their own axis, and a red block that has to reach the exit gap on the right. Tap a block, then tap where you want it to go, and it moves if the lane is clear. One slide of any distance counts as one move. Because seven is odd, the exit lane is the true middle row, with three rows of traffic above and three below.

Every board is machine generated and then solved exactly by a breadth-first search over every reachable position, so the perfect score really is the fewest moves possible. Par sits a cushion above perfect; it is the number a clean solve lands on and it can be beaten. There is no undo, only a restart, and a Hint button points the way when you are stuck. A bar above the board shows your moves against perfect and par as you go.

Boards climb through the week, from about sixteen moves on Monday to the mid thirties by Saturday, and Sunday runs longer still. Each day's board is harder than the matching Parker board, and Junkyard, on an eight by eight lot, is the largest of the three. A new board appears every day at midnight Eastern.

How to play Impound (Mind Loft)

  1. Open Impound; the day's lot appears with par and perfect shown above it.
  2. Tap a block to pick it up; the groove on it shows which way it slides.
  3. Tap where you want it along that axis; one slide of any distance is one move.
  4. Clear the middle row and slide the red block out through the exit in the right-hand wall.
  5. Aim for par or fewer moves; there is no undo, only Restart board, and Hint helps when you are stuck.

Tips

  • Work backwards: list which blocks sit in the exit row and what has to move for each to clear.
  • A long slide counts as one move, so move blocks as far as they need to go in one go.
  • Before committing, check that a move does not trap a block you will need to move later.

Questions

What time does Impound reset?

A new Impound puzzle goes up every day at midnight US Eastern Time, the same for every player. Boards get longer through the week, from about sixteen moves on Monday to the mid thirties by Saturday, and the Sunday Edition runs longer again.

Is Impound free?

Yes. Impound plays in the browser on Mind Loft with no app and no account. Signing up with a display name (no password) puts your result on the daily leaderboard; an email is optional.

Can I play earlier Impound puzzles?

Yes. Mind Loft keeps an archive of past Impound boards together with each day's standings.

What do par and perfect mean in Impound?

Perfect is the proven fewest moves for the board, found by exhaustive search; par is a few moves above it, the number a clean solve lands on.
