Cogs is The Telegraph's word puzzle with a twist. The grid is made of four-letter blocks, or cogs, and you rotate each one until the white squares read as words and phrases. A free Mini Cogs is published every day at cogs.gg, with no sign-up; the full daily grid is part of the Telegraph Puzzles subscription.
About Cogs (The Telegraph)
Cogs arrived in the Telegraph Puzzles app in November 2025 and was announced as The Telegraph's new puzzle a few weeks later. The board is a grid of blocks, each holding four letters, and a cog sits at the centre of each block. Tapping the cog turns the block's letters a quarter turn clockwise. Only the white squares count: the puzzle is solved when every across and down run of white squares spells a word or phrase, and the grey squares are filler.
You can lock a block once you are sure of it, so it stops turning, check a block, a word or the whole grid, and reveal the answer if you are stuck. A timer runs while you play, and the game keeps your streak and gives you a result to share.
The Mini Cogs is a six by six grid of nine blocks, numbered and the same for every player each day. It plays in the browser at cogs.gg on a phone or a desktop with no account and no ads, and it is also offered free to all users in the Telegraph Puzzles app. The full Cogs grid is part of the Telegraph Puzzles subscription, in the app and on the web.
It suits anyone who likes letter puzzles with a physical feel, such as Typeshift or Waffle: there are no clues, just letters to turn until the words fall into place.

Tips
- Start with the corners: a corner block's letters belong to two words at once.
- Lock a block as soon as you are sure; it saves accidental turns.
- Short words are easier to spot; let them fix the blocks around the long ones.
- Grey squares never count, so turn a block until its white letters fit and ignore the rest.
