Closer's Numbers puzzle for 19 October: a question on how many adult teeth there are, a first guess of 3 marked warm with a much higher arrow, and the number pad

Closer is a daily set of four short puzzles: answer a question with a number, find a hidden word by meaning, name a city from a clue and say what a widening picture shows. No guess is wrong; each is scored by how close it is, and sooner scores higher. The set takes about two minutes.

About Closer

Closer puts out one numbered set a day; on 19 October 2026 it was set #63. Each set has four puzzles, and the game's line is that there are no wrong answers, only how close you can get. A scale from far to bullseye shows where each guess lands, and every puzzle gives six guesses.

Numbers asks a question whose answer is a number, such as how many teeth are in a full adult set, and tells you after each guess whether to go higher or lower and how warm you are. Words names a topic for the day's hidden word and scores each word you type by how near its meaning is, with hints that unlock as you guess. Places gives a clue to a city and you name cities until you reach it. Widen shows a small part of a picture and reveals more in six stages until you can say what it is.

Sooner scores higher: a close guess early is worth more than the same guess late. The daily set plays with no account; signing in with Google or email puts your scores on the day's leaderboard once all four puzzles are done. A new set arrives at midnight UTC.

It suits players who want a short, varied set of puzzles rather than one long one, and who like hot-and-cold feedback more than right-or-wrong.

How to play Closer

  1. Open closerproto.xyz to see the day's numbered set of four puzzles.
  2. Pick a puzzle: Numbers, Words, Places or Widen.
  3. Read the question, topic, clue or picture and make a guess.
  4. Read how close it is on the scale from far to bullseye, and in Numbers whether to go higher or lower.

  6. Finish all four; sign in if you want your scores on the day's leaderboard.

Tips

  • Make your first guess count: sooner guesses score higher.
  • In Numbers, use the higher or lower arrow to halve the range with each guess.
  • In Words, start broad within the day's topic and narrow down once a guess runs warm.
  • In Widen, guess at an early stage even if unsure; the feedback tells you how near you are.
