Chartle for 28 Oct 2026: cumulative number of large-scale AI systems, 2019 to 2025, the red target line with two wrong guesses, United Kingdom and Germany, drawn near zero

Chartle shows one chart a day, a statistic over time for a handful of countries, with one line in red and no names on it. You type countries to see where their lines fall against the red one, and have five tries to name it. The data comes from Our World in Data.

About Chartle

Chartle is a daily guessing game played on a line chart. Each day's chart tracks one statistic, such as banana exports, solar power generation or refugee numbers by country of origin, with the title, unit, years and source shown. One line is red: that is the country you have to name.

The only clues are the chart itself. Type any country and its line is drawn on the chart in its own colour, so you can see whether it sits above or below the target, rises at the same time or follows a different shape. You have five guesses, and every guess teaches you something about the scale of the data even when it is wrong.

After the game a short note explains the story behind the chart, and an Explore data mode lets you look up any country in the day's data set. You can also see which countries other players guessed most and how many tries they needed. Past charts are listed with their dates so you can catch up, and signing in keeps your history between devices.

The game is made by Adnaan and Erwan and is free, with an optional donation button. It suits players who like Tradle or Our World in Data's charts and want a geography puzzle built on numbers rather than maps.

How to play Chartle

  1. Read today's chart: its title, unit, years and source.
  2. Look at the red line, the country you need to name, against the grey ones.
  3. Type a country into the box under the chart; its line appears for comparison.
  4. Use how your guesses compare with the red line to choose the next one.
  5. Name the red country within five guesses, then share your result or explore the data.

Tips

  • Read the title and unit closely; a per-person measure points to very different countries than a total.
  • Use your first guess on a large producer or a big country to set the scale of the chart.
  • Watch for sudden jumps or drops in the red line; they often match a war, a crisis or a policy change.
  • Small countries often top per-capita charts, so do not rule them out.
