Bulls and Cows Game is a browser version of the old pencil-and-paper code game. Each day has one numbered secret code of four different digits, the same for everyone. Every guess tells you how many digits sit in the right place (bulls) and how many are in the code but misplaced (cows), and you have 50 guesses to get four bulls.
About Bulls and Cows Game (bullsandcowsgame.com)
Bulls and Cows is the pencil-and-paper game that came before Mastermind, played with digits instead of coloured pegs. This site turns it into a daily puzzle. The page counts its games from #1 on 5 May 2025, and from game #459 each day's code is the next entry in a fixed shuffle of all 5,040 four-digit codes with no repeated digit. Everyone gets the same code, and a new one goes up at midnight UTC.
A day's game is played on a keypad under the board. You enter four different digits and press Go. The row then shows how many bulls (right digit, right place) and cows (right digit, wrong place) the guess earned, with a poo emoji for each digit that is not in the code. The clue icons are grouped bulls first, so they do not say which digit earned which. You have up to 50 guesses, far more than most solves need. An Easy switch colours each digit green or gold like a word game, but an easy game is kept off your stats and the leaderboard.
Arrows beside the date step back through earlier days. After a solve you see your streak, win rate and average guesses, and you can share a result grid without the code. After ten daily games you can enter a name on a season leaderboard ranked by average guesses.
The site has two more ways to play beside the daily. Bull Rush is a second daily where five scored clues fit exactly one code and you get a single guess. Play a friend is a live match in which each player sets a code and you take turns guessing, three minutes a turn. There is also a classroom mode and a guide for teachers.
It suits Mastermind players and anyone who likes a short number puzzle where every clue can be reasoned through.
How to play Bulls and Cows Game (bullsandcowsgame.com)
- Open the site. Today's daily number and date are shown above the board.
- Tap four different digits on the keypad, or type them, and press Go.
- Read the clues on the right of the row. A bull is a right digit in the right place, a cow is a right digit in the wrong place, and a poo marks a digit that is not in the code.
- Use what each row rules out to choose the next guess.
- Keep going until a row shows four bulls. You have up to 50 guesses.

Tips
- Start with two guesses that share no digits, such as 1234 and 5678. Their counts tell you how many of the code's digits sit in 9 and 0.
- A row with no bulls and no cows removes four digits at once.
- Move one digit at a time between guesses when you want to learn which digit is the bull.
- Write down the codes still possible rather than guessing on instinct.

At midnight UTC.
How many guesses do I get?
Up to 50.
Can I play earlier days?
Yes. Arrows next to the date step back through earlier games.
