Yearly Daily for October 18th, event 1 of 5: in what year was Herman Melville's The Whale published in Britain, with a year box, a slider from 1800 to 1890 and 100 lives

Yearly Daily gives you a lineup of real events that all took place on today's date, each in a different year. You guess the exact year of each one, and every year you are off costs a life from a shared pool of 100. Finish the lineup with a life left to win.

About Yearly Daily

Yearly Daily is a daily on-this-day game from CoffeeFirst. Each day brings a lineup of real historical events that share the day's calendar date but happened in different years, and your job is to name the exact year of each.

Instead of a fixed number of guesses, you have 100 lives for the whole day. Each guess costs one life for every year it is off, so a guess five years out costs five. That makes the game about steady accuracy across the lineup: a wild miss on one event can sink the day, while a string of near misses still leaves room. You win by getting through every event with at least one life left.

Each event carries a small subject tag such as Pop Culture, and a slider under the year box narrows the range to a span of decades around the answer. The puzzle is dated, and an archive lets you go back to earlier days. CoffeeFirst publishes other daily games on the same site.

It suits players of Yeardle, Jaardle or the TimeLine Game who enjoy this-day-in-history trivia and would rather name a year outright than sort events.

The game is free and needs no account. It shows ads: a full-screen advertisement with a Continue button appears after Play Now, and a banner sits at the bottom of the board; a paid Remove Ads option takes them away.

How to play Yearly Daily

  1. Open coffeefirst.games/yearly-daily and press Play Now.
  2. Read the first event, which happened on today's date in some year.
  3. Type the year you think it happened.
  4. Lose one life for each year you are off; the answer is then shown.
  5. Work through all the events and finish with at least one life left to win.

Tips

  • Your 100 lives cover the whole lineup, so avoid a wild guess on an event you do not know: pick a sensible middle year instead.
  • Events on the same date often cluster in well-documented periods such as the 19th and 20th centuries.
  • Use the archive to play missed days.
