Year To Beat

on yeartobeat.com

Year To Beat plays you five music videos a day and asks the release year of each. Every year off costs points, but even a guess 30 years out scores something, and the day's total goes on a leaderboard. The songs are the same for everyone, and no account is needed.
About Year To Beat
Year To Beat is a daily music game about release years. Each numbered challenge holds five songs, played as their music videos inside the page. You watch and listen, then type the year you think the video came out on an on-screen keypad (or your keyboard) and press Enter.
Each song is worth up to 1,000 points, so a perfect day is 5,000. The score falls the further your guess is from the real year, so a near miss still earns most of the points and a guess a decade out still earns some. After each round the game shows the release year beside your guess, how many years early or late you were, the share of today's players you beat on that track, and the artist and title with a short piece of trivia about the song or its video.
After the fifth song you see your total, your place on the day's leaderboard and a share line with your result for each song. A Challenge a Friend button sends the day to someone else, and leagues are leaderboards you set up for a group and join by invite link.
The daily is free, has no ads and needs no account. Logging in keeps a display name on the leaderboard and your history across devices. Past challenges sit in an archive that is unlocked with a paid Archive Pass or a monthly or annual plan. If YouTube will not play a video in the page, the game offers to open it on YouTube instead.
It suits players of Songle (Histordle) or Timdle Music who like dating songs, and anyone who knows the sound and look of a decade better than song titles.

Tips
- Production gives the decade away: drum machines, gated reverb and Auto-Tune each belong to an era.
- Every year counts, so a careful guess near the middle of your range beats a bold exact guess.
- The video itself is a clue: picture quality, aspect ratio, fashion and editing style each point to an era even when the song is new to you.
