Wormillion Dig #26 for 7 October, round 1 of 10: the prompt Name a river longer than 500 km, a box to type a place and a running timer, beside the pixel worm at the surface

Wormillion is a daily geography game about obscure answers. Ten prompts, thirty seconds each: name any real place that fits, and the fewer monthly Wikipedia views it has, the more you score and the deeper your pixel worm digs. Everyone gets the same ten prompts each day.

About Wormillion

Wormillion is a browser game by Michael Boujikian, who also made the daily country game Shrimply. Its idea is the reverse of most quizzes: a correct answer everyone would give is worth little, and a correct answer few people know is worth a lot.

A run has ten rounds of thirty seconds. Each round gives a prompt, such as "Name a country", and you type any real place that fits. Obscurity is measured by monthly Wikipedia views, so the Nile, with tens of thousands, barely moves the worm, while a little-known place sends it down through the soil layers. Wrong or unknown answers cost nothing, so you can keep guessing until the clock runs out, but you cannot repeat a place within a run, and skipping a round scores nothing.

Today's dig is numbered and gives the same ten prompts to every player; once you finish, a countdown shows when the next one starts. After a dive you see your finds ranked from least to most obscure, and a review shows the rarest answer each prompt would have taken. Endless mode deals fresh prompts as often as you like, and Past dives keeps your daily streak and averages. The game's bank holds over 32,000 real places.

It suits players who know their maps beyond the capitals and like the gamble of reaching for an answer that might not count.

How to play Wormillion

  1. Open Wormillion and press Today's dig.
  2. Read the prompt and type a real place that fits it before the thirty seconds run out.
  3. Aim for an obscure answer: places with fewer Wikipedia views dig deeper and score more.
  4. Keep guessing if an answer is not accepted, or skip a round you cannot answer.
  5. After ten rounds, review your finds and share your depth; the next dig starts after midnight.

Tips

  • Skip the famous answer that comes to mind first; it will score close to nothing.
  • Small island nations, regions and little-known rivers are a good source of obscure answers.
  • Wrong answers cost nothing, so try a risky place first and fall back on a safe one.
  • Play Endless mode to learn which kinds of answers score well before the daily.

Questions

Is Wormillion the same for everyone each day?

Yes. Today's dig gives every player the same ten prompts, and each day's dig has a number.

When does the daily dig change?

At midnight on your own clock; after you finish, the page counts down to the next dig.

How is obscurity measured?

By how many monthly Wikipedia views the place gets: fewer views mean a deeper dig and more points.

Can I play more than once a day?

The daily is one run, but Endless mode deals new prompts as often as you like.
