Word of The Day is a free Android word game by Mutasim Darras. Its Daily Word mode gives every player the same five-letter word each day to find in six guesses; an Online mode races up to four players on the same word in real time, and an Unlimited mode holds more than 5,000 levels.

About Word of The Day - Online, Daily

The heart of the app is Daily Word, a five-letter guessing puzzle shared by all players that changes every day. You get six rows, and each guess colours its letters: green for the right letter in the right place, orange for a letter that belongs elsewhere in the word, and dark grey for a letter that is not in it.

Two other modes sit beside it. Online pits you against up to three other players in real time, each on their own grid, so you can see how close your rivals are. Unlimited is a long ladder of levels, more than 5,000 according to the listing, each earning up to three stars.

It suits players who want the daily word plus a quick head-to-head with friends on the same phone app.

How to play Word of The Day - Online, Daily

Open the app and pick Daily Word.
Type a five-letter word and press enter.
Read the colours: green is right letter, right place; orange is in the word but elsewhere; dark grey is not in the word.
Narrow down the word over up to six guesses.
Try Online to race friends, or Unlimited for more levels.

Tips

Use your second guess on fresh letters rather than repeating ones you have already placed.
In Online mode, speed matters as much as fewest guesses: play common letters early.
