Underline is a daily word game from From The Think. Everyone gets the same start word and end word, and you race the clock to link them through words that each make a familiar phrase with the one before, choosing between two branches at each step.
About Underline (From The Think)
Underline is the fourth daily game on From The Think, a small site of bite-sized daily games built by two friends, Jack and Grant, who started it in 2026 with Timeline, Headline and Moneyline. Each Underline game is dated and numbered, and everyone plays the same puzzle on the same day.
The puzzle starts from one word and ends at another, and every player has the same two. Between them sits a branching route: at each step you are shown the first letter of two possible next words, and the one you name has to make a common phrase or compound with the word before it. From GARBAGE, for instance, the choice might be D____ or T____. The game's own rules sum it up as same start word, same end word, race your route.
A timer runs from the first step, so the aim is to reach the end word quickly. A wrong guess is not the end of the run: it gives you another letter of the word as a hint, at the cost of a few seconds.
It takes a minute or two and plays in the browser without an account, on a desktop or a phone, where an on-screen keyboard appears. A short ad card shows before the board. It suits players who like word association, compound words and a little time pressure.
How to play Underline (From The Think)
- Open Underline and press Start Playing for today's game.
- Read the start word at the top of the route.
- Pick one of the two next words, each shown only by its first letter, and type a word that makes a phrase with the current one.
- Press Submit; a wrong guess reveals another letter of the word as a hint.
- Keep linking words until you reach the day's end word, as fast as you can.

Tips
- Say the current word out loud with each letter after it; common phrases like garbage truck often jump out when spoken.
- If one branch is stuck, try the other letter: both lead on toward the end word.
- A wrong guess costs time but buys a letter, so guess rather than freeze.
