Ubahndoku is a daily grid puzzle about the Berlin U-Bahn. Each row and column has a criterion, such as a station in fare zone B, a name containing a D or a station in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, and you fill the nine cells with stations that match both. Rarer answers score more, and it plays in German or English.
About Ubahndoku
Ubahndoku borrows the format of sports grid games and applies it to Berlin's underground, the nine lines U1 to U9 and about 175 stations. Three criteria run across the top and three down the side. On 21 October 2026 they were stations in fare zone B, names containing a D, names starting with a vowel, stations in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, long names of 18 letters or more, and names ending in F. You pick a cell and type a station that satisfies both its row and its column.
You get at most three mistakes, and a station cannot be changed or reused once placed. Tapping the question mark beside a criterion explains it; line criteria count only stations where the line really stops. Each correct cell earns points for how rarely other players chose the same station that day, plus a fixed bonus, and each mistake costs 20 points, for a total out of 900. A rarity label, such as common, shows on each placed station, and you can share an emoji result.
Normal mode shows how many answers each cell has and suggests stations as you type; Expert mode is the same grid typed from memory with no suggestions. A daily streak counts the days you open the puzzle, and an archive keeps past grids as bonus puzzles that do not touch the streak. Progress stays in your browser, with no account.
A new puzzle appears every day at midnight Berlin time, the same for everyone. The site is in German with an English switch and a dark mode. It is an unofficial fan project built on the VBB's open timetable data and is not connected with the BVG or the VBB. It suits Berliners, commuters and visitors who know the lines.
How to play Ubahndoku
- Open ubahndoku.de, switch to EN if you want English, and choose Normal or Expert.
- Read the three column and three row criteria; tap a question mark for an explanation.
- Pick a cell and type a Berlin U-Bahn station that meets both its row and its column criterion.
- Fill all nine cells without making three mistakes; a placed station cannot be changed or reused.
- When all nine cells are done or the mistakes run out, share your result and come back after midnight Berlin time.

Tips
- Fill the most restrictive cell first, usually the one where a district meets a letter rule.
- Rare stations score more than the obvious ones, so pick a less famous station when you are sure it fits.
- Do not spend a station that fits several cells on the first one you see.
- Stations in the outer parts of the city, such as Ruhleben, are usually in fare zone B.
- Play old grids from the archive to learn the network's names.
Questions
When does a new Ubahndoku appear?
Every day at midnight Berlin time; it is the same for everyone.
Can I play in English?
Yes. The site is in German with an EN switch for the interface and criteria; station names stay in German.
How many mistakes are allowed?
At most three per game, and each one costs 20 points.
What is the difference between Normal and Expert?
It is the same grid. Normal shows how many answers each cell has and suggests stations as you type; Expert has you type the names from memory.
How is the score worked out?
Each correct cell scores by how few other players chose the same station that day, plus a fixed bonus, up to 900 in all. Until enough people have played, rarity is estimated from the station's passenger numbers.
Do I need an account?
No. Your progress, streak and settings are kept in your browser only.
Is it an official BVG game?
No. It is an unofficial fan project using VBB open data, not connected with the BVG or the VBB.
