Typecast board on 22 October 2026: the first actor's filmography from 2016 to 2025 with titles hidden as blanks, genres and ratings, and the 15-guess counter

Typecast shows you an actor's filmography with the film titles blanked: you see the years, genres and ratings, and must name who it is. Each day brings one actor to solve and two harder ones to risk your score on, with 15 guesses and a hand of hint cards for the day.

About Typecast

Typecast is a daily actor guessing game from Smashcut Games, the maker of On Location and Headshots. Each day's puzzle starts with one actor. You see a filmography table: the year, genre and rating of every film, with each title hidden as blanks that show only its word lengths and punctuation.

You have 15 guesses for the day. A wrong name costs a guess and a correct one is free, and wrong guesses help too: the co-stars of a missed name can land on the board. Below the table sits a hand of hint cards, such as one that names the actor's most frequent collaborator or one that reveals the first word of their highest-rated title, each costing from one to three guesses.

Name the first actor and the day counts as solved. Then comes the gambit: two more actors worth 250 and 500 points, where you can bank what you have or push on and risk it. The film data comes from TMDB, and everyone plays the same actors that day, with new puzzles at midnight UTC.

The Smashcut site also hosts On Location, Headshots, Underscore, Ensemble and Props, with a shared day streak, a monthly log and achievements across them. Typecast suits film fans who know careers and eras: the shape of a filmography, a run of comedies in one decade or a lone war film, is often enough to place an actor before any title shows.

How to play Typecast

  1. Open smashcut.games/typecast and press Begin.
  2. Study the first actor's filmography: years, genres and ratings, with titles blanked.
  3. Type the actor's name and press Guess; a miss costs one of your 15 guesses.
  4. Play a hint card if you are stuck, at a cost of one to three guesses.
  5. Once the first actor is named, choose whether to bank your score or go on to the second and third actors, worth 250 and 500 points.

Tips

  • Look at gaps and bursts in the years: a long career or a recent breakout narrows the field fast.
  • The blank lengths and punctuation in titles, a colon or an ampersand, often give away a franchise.
  • A wrong guess is not wasted: check which co-stars it puts on the board before guessing again.
  • Keep a few guesses in hand before pushing on to the 500-point actor, or bank the day.

Questions

How many guesses do I get?

Fifteen for the whole day. A wrong name costs one guess, a hint card costs one to three, and a correct name costs nothing.

When is there a new puzzle?

Every day at midnight UTC; the page counts down to the next one.

Is it free?

Yes. It is free to play in the browser with no sign-up and no ads.
