Today's Trio board on 18 October 2026: nine cards of triangles, stars and pentagons in blue and pink, one to three shapes each, solid, striped or outlined, with five round boxes, Hint and Submit

Trio is Nerdcube's daily Set-style puzzle. Each day's game runs five rounds: spot the three cards on a nine-card board where every feature is all the same or all different, and three new cards replace them. It is free in the browser, with one hint a round, an archive and a result grid to share.

About Trio (Nerdcube)

Trio takes the rule of the card game Set. Each card shows one, two or three shapes, and the cards differ in colour, shape, count and fill (solid, striped or outlined). Three cards make a Trio when, for each of those features, they are all the same or all different.

The day's puzzle is the same for every player and is played in five rounds. Nine cards sit in a three by three grid; you pick three and press Submit. A correct Trio is cleared and three new cards are dealt in, and the row of five boxes at the top fills with a tick for each round you solve. Each round allows one hint, which lights up one card of the answer, and a round solved with a hint is marked in yellow on the share grid.

Nerdcube Daily is a small set of free browser puzzles with a new puzzle each day: Trio sits beside Dabble, Carom, Inlay and Jumble, under one menu. Trio needs no account, shows no ads, and keeps an archive of earlier days, so a missed puzzle can still be played.

It suits players of Set and anyone who likes quick visual pattern puzzles: a full day takes a few minutes.

How to play Trio (Nerdcube)

  1. Open today's Trio and press Play.
  2. Look over the nine cards: each has a colour, a shape, a count of one to three and a fill.
  3. Pick three cards where every feature is either the same on all three or different on all three.
  4. Press Submit: a correct Trio is cleared and three new cards are dealt in for the next round.
  5. Use Hint if you are stuck, at most once a round, to light up one card of the answer.
  6. Solve all five rounds, then share your result grid.

Tips

  • Pick two cards and work out exactly what the third must be, then look for it on the board.
  • Check one feature at a time; a feature split two and one rules the group out.
  • Count and fill are the easiest features to miss, so check them on purpose before you submit.
  • A round solved with a hint shows yellow in the share grid, so try a little longer before pressing it.
