Tilbo is a word game played on a grid five tiles wide. Every word you type fills the next empty tiles, wrapping from row to row, and wherever a letter touches the same letter the pair lights up and can be tapped away. Each day has an Easy, a Medium and a Hard board to clear before the grid fills up.
About Tilbo
Tilbo is a free browser word game about where letters land. The grid is five tiles wide and each day's board starts with a few words already in place: one on Easy, two on Medium and four on Hard. On 19 October 2026 the Easy board opened on BUNNY and the Medium one on FUNNY and WINDY.
It is made by Alex Duckmanton, who links a Ko-fi page and a Bluesky account from the game's menu.
You type words of any length, and each one fills the grid from the next empty tile, carrying on to the next row when a row is full. When a letter ends up next to a matching letter, the tiles light up and a tap clears them. The aim is to empty the grid; if it fills, the game is over. Power-ups are earned along the way: a shuffle that spreads tiles across the columns, a key that frees a locked letter, and a slice that takes off the bottom row.
There is no single right answer. The puzzle is picking words whose letters fall beside the right neighbours, so it rewards spatial planning as much as vocabulary. Beyond the three daily boards there are Unlimited and Timed modes, a streak and a result to share. It suits players who like a word game with a bit of Tetris-style planning.
How to play Tilbo
- Open Tilbo and pick Easy, Medium or Hard; a short how-to shows the rules the first time.
- Type a word of any length and submit it; its letters fill the grid from the next empty tile, wrapping onto the next row.
- Look for letters that now sit next to a matching letter: they light up.
- Tap the lit tiles to clear them and make room.
- Use earned power-ups (shuffle, unlock, slice) when the grid gets crowded.
- Clear every tile to finish the board; if the grid fills, it is game over.

Tips
- Before typing, look at which tile your word starts on and what sits above and beside it, and pick a word that lands a matching letter there.
- Short words are safer when the grid is nearly full.
- Filling a whole row with one word earns the unlock power-up, so plan longer words for the start of a row.
- Start with Easy to learn how words wrap before trying Hard, which begins with four starter words.
