ThruLine is a Puzzle Society word game played against the clock: columns of letter tiles slide up and down, and you move them until the letters crossing the highlighted line spell a real word. Each day brings seven words to find, with only seconds for each, on GoComics with a subscription.
About ThruLine (Puzzle Society)
ThruLine is one of the Puzzle Society games from Andrews McMeel Universal, played on the GoComics puzzle pages. The Puzzle Society calls it a new take on the word scramble, in which you have mere seconds to spin seven sets of letters until they dial in on real words.
Each round shows a row of vertical columns, one per letter of the answer, each holding several letter tiles. A band runs across the middle of the board. Slide each column up or down, like the wheels of a combination lock, and the letters sitting in the band change; when the band reads a real word across, the round is solved. In the game's art the band reads C N U I A L V, half-turned, with LATIUMD and TAPSB among the columns.
There are seven rounds a day and a timer on each, so ThruLine is about quick recognition: seeing which letters in each column could start, continue and end a word. The answer must use one letter from every column.
ThruLine is included with a GoComics subscription, alongside the other Puzzle Society games. It is not the same game as the picture-linking daily that is also called Thruline.
How to play ThruLine (Puzzle Society)
- Open ThruLine on the GoComics puzzles page and sign in with a GoComics subscription.
- Look at the columns of letter tiles and the highlighted line across the middle.
- Slide each column up or down so that one of its letters sits on the line.
- When the letters on the line spell a real word, the round is solved; do it before the timer runs out.
- Go on through all seven words of the day.
Tips
- Start with the first and last columns: the letters that can begin and end a word narrow things fastest.
- Look for common endings such as -ED, -ER and -LY in the last columns.
- Vowels decide most words: set the vowel columns first, then fit consonants around them.
