Agent Caesar casefile MANTICORE on desktop: the briefing above four rows of encrypted letters, a +11 block placed on the first four with P and A filled green, and the tray of cipher blocks below

Agent Caesar is a daily code-breaking puzzle from Fox Point Games. Each casefile is a scrambled message, and you decode it by dragging cipher blocks, each with a shift value and a length, onto the right stretches of text. Letters turn green as they come out right, and the game ends when the whole message reads clearly.

About Agent Caesar

Agent Caesar dresses a Caesar cipher puzzle in a spy story. Each day brings a numbered casefile: a short briefing from a field station and an intercepted message that reads as noise. Your job is to decrypt it, and the plain text is a sentence of agency chatter such as orders to hold a position.

The tools are cipher blocks. Each block shifts letters through the alphabet by a set amount, forwards or backwards, and covers a set number of characters, shown as large segments of five and small segments of one. You drag blocks onto the track over the message. Up to two blocks can overlap, and some positions need both to come out right. A letter that is correctly decrypted fills green, which is how you learn where a block belongs.

A Case Notes tool lets you test any shift on the day's text with a rotating wheel, so you can look for words hiding in the static before committing a block. The next casefile arrives at 8 AM Eastern, older ones are declassified in the archive, and you can sign up to receive each day's casefile name. The game is free and ad-free, supported by optional memberships, and comes from the same small studio as Zaggle and Wordsmyth.

It suits players who like codes and ciphers, and logic fans who want a word-shaped puzzle that is more about placement than vocabulary.

How to play Agent Caesar

  1. Open Agent Caesar and read the day's casefile briefing and encrypted message.
  2. Open Case Notes to test shift values on the text and spot likely words.
  3. Drag a cipher block from the tray onto the track; its shift applies to the letters it covers.
  4. Watch for green letters, move blocks around, and overlap two where a position needs both.
  5. Decrypt the whole message to close the casefile, then share your score.

Tips

  • Look for short common words such as THE or AND in Case Notes to find the first block's shift.
  • A block's length is fixed, so match long blocks to long runs first.
  • If a letter refuses to turn green under one block, it probably needs a second overlapping block.
  • Play an archived casefile first to learn how overlaps combine.

Questions

When is a new casefile released?

At 8 AM Eastern Time each day.

Can I play older casefiles?

Yes. Past casefiles are declassified in the archive.

Does it cost anything?

No. The game is free and ad-free; the developer asks for optional memberships to support it.

Do I need to know ciphers?

No. Each block shifts letters through the alphabet, and the Case Notes wheel shows the effect of any shift.

Where do I get today's casefile name?

The game asks for the day's casefile name before it opens the new case. It comes in the free daily email, and every shared result from today names it. Without it you can play yesterday's case and all older ones from the archive.
