The Quiet Order is a calm logic puzzle in the Queens family, set in a monastery at sunset. The board is split into coloured regions, and you place one monk in each so that no two share a row or a column or touch, even diagonally. Each day brings dated daily boards in several sizes, free to play in the itch.io demo and ranked on Steam leaderboards in the full game.
About The Quiet Order
The Quiet Order takes the rules known from LinkedIn's Queens and the classic Eight Queens problem and sets them in a quiet monastery, with a pagoda, pine trees and a low sun behind the board. Each board is divided into coloured regions. Every region needs exactly one monk, no row or column may hold two, and no two monks may stand side by side, diagonals included. Each puzzle has one solution that logic alone reaches.
The game is by Thorvaldsson Games. A free demo came out on itch.io in June 2026 and the full game followed on Steam for Windows on 17 July 2026, a one-time purchase with no microtransactions. The main menu shows the day's date and a day streak, and beneath it the daily boards by size: 6x6, 8x8, 10x10 and 2 Monks, a 10x10 where every region, row and column takes two monks. The demo plays the 6x6 and 8x8 dailies and the other two are locked; on Steam every daily has a leaderboard of completion times shared by demo and full-game players.
You left-click to place or remove a monk and right-click to mark a cell with an X, and Undo, Redo and Restart take you back out of a wrong line. Beside the dailies there are fixed level sets for each board size. Since the 1.1.0 update in October 2026 the Steam game has a Hint button that points out a wrong mark or shows the next cell to rule out and why, with a 30 second wait between hints on dailies. There is a dark mode, a colour-blind mode, an optional timer and a choice of four calm music tracks.
It suits players who already solve Queens or Star Battle each morning and want a slower, quieter version with bigger boards and a two-per-region challenge.
How to play The Quiet Order
- Open the game and choose today's daily board by size on the main menu.
- Look at the coloured regions: each needs exactly one monk (two on the 2 Monks board).
- Left-click a cell to place a monk; no two monks may share a row or column or touch, diagonals included.
- Right-click a cell to mark it with an X where a monk cannot go.
- Fill every region to solve the board, using Undo or Restart if you go wrong.

Tips
- Start with the smallest region; its few cells limit the rows and columns around it.
- When a region lies entirely within one row or column, cross out the rest of that row or column for the other regions.
- Mark the eight cells around every monk you place at once, so touching placements are ruled out.
Questions
Are The Quiet Order's daily puzzles the same for everyone?
Yes. Each day's boards carry that day's date, and on Steam each daily has a leaderboard that ranks completion times against other players.
Is it like LinkedIn's Queens?
It uses the same rules: one piece per coloured region, no two in a row or column, and none touching. It adds bigger boards up to 10x10 and a board with two monks per region.
Is The Quiet Order free?
The demo on itch.io is free and includes the 6x6 and 8x8 dailies plus sets of levels. The full game, with all four dailies and hints, is a one-time purchase on Steam for Windows.
Does it have ads?
No. Neither the itch.io demo nor the Steam game shows ads, and the Steam game has no microtransactions.
