The Magical Ferry is a daily river-crossing puzzle in pixel art by Laura Gao. Each day you get a crew of fairy-tale creatures, a boat that holds only so many, a limited number of rides and a list of who cannot be left together, and you plan the crossings so nobody is chased, hexed or seasick. The week starts easy on Monday and ends extra hard on Sunday.
About The Magical Ferry
The Magical Ferry turns the old riddle of the wolf, the sheep and the cabbage into a daily game. Its maker, Laura Gao, writes that the riddle was her favourite of the puzzles her grandmother used to set her, and the game keeps its core: a ferry, two banks and passengers who cannot be left alone together.
Each day's challenge is dated and the same for everyone. A card lists the rules for the day: the most rides you may take, how many passengers the boat holds, the crew (on Tuesday 20 October 2026 a wolf, a frog king, a sentient cabbage, a hen and a unicorn) and the conflicts, such as the wolf chasing the cabbage or the frog king hexing it. Statuses add a second layer: that day's hen gets seasick after two rides. You tap a passenger to load it, send the boat across, unload and come back until everyone is on the far bank within the ride limit.
The daily gets harder as the week goes on, from Easy on Monday to Extra Hard on Sunday, and the harder days use mechanics that the Story Mode teaches one at a time: luggage that curses its carrier or cannot travel without its owner, weight limits, a tide that uncovers an island for parking passengers, fog that hides the rules, and passengers such as mimics and werewolves. There is a 30-second tutorial, an undo button, hints and a full solution if you are stuck, a timer, a streak, a calendar of past days that can all be replayed, a leaderboard and private rooms to compare times with friends.
It plays in the browser on a phone or a computer with no account: the game gives you a random captain's name, which you can change, and there are no ads, only a link to support the maker. It suits players who like short planning puzzles with a story to them rather than words or numbers.
How to play The Magical Ferry
- Open magicalferry.com and press Today's Challenge, then accept or change the captain's name it gives you.
- Read today's rules card: the ride limit, the boat's capacity, the crew and which passengers cannot be left together.
- Tap a passenger on the start bank to load it onto the ferry, up to the boat's capacity.
- Send the ferry across, unload, and bring back whoever you need, never leaving a clashing pair alone on either bank.
- Watch the statuses, such as a passenger who gets seasick after a set number of rides, and the rides left counter.
- Get the whole crew across within the ride limit to solve the day and keep your streak.

Tips
- Find the passenger in the most conflicts; it usually has to ride most often.
- Bringing a passenger back to the start bank is often the key move, as in the original riddle.
- Count rides for anyone who gets seasick before you plan the order.
- Play a few Story Mode levels before the weekend: the Saturday and Sunday dailies use the mechanics it teaches.
Questions
Is there a new Magical Ferry puzzle every day?
Yes. Each day has its own dated challenge, the same for every player, and it resets at midnight by your device's clock.
Why is the puzzle harder some days?
The daily gets harder through the week: Monday is Easy and Sunday is Extra Hard, with more passengers and mechanics later in the week.
Can I play past days?
Yes. Every past daily crossing can be replayed from the game's calendar, and Story Mode has its own run of levels.
Does it need an account or show ads?
No. The game gives you a captain's name for the leaderboard with no sign-up, and it shows no ads.
