on telegraph.co.uk

Kakuro is one of the daily number puzzles in Telegraph Puzzles, the newspaper's puzzle site and app. The app calls it a word game that uses numbers instead: each run of white squares must hold digits that add up to the clue beside it. A new grid comes every day for subscribers.
About Telegraph Kakuro
Kakuro sits with the number puzzles in Telegraph Puzzles, next to Sudoku Regular, Sudoku Tough and Killer Sudoku. The app's own line for it is: in the mood for something new? Solve a word game that uses numbers instead. When the Telegraph launched its puzzles website in 2022, it named Kakuro, a cult favourite, among the puzzles to play there alongside the daily sudoku and codewords grids.
The grid looks like a crossword. Instead of letters, you fill the white squares with the digits 1 to 9. Each run of squares, across or down, has a clue: the total its digits must add up to. As in a crossword, the runs cross, so every square has to work for two sums at once.
The puzzle changes every day and carries a running number: No. 5,894 was Monday 5 October 2026, and the Kakuro page lists every earlier grid by number and date. It is part of the paid Telegraph Puzzles subscription, which also comes with some Telegraph digital subscriptions, and the free daily minis offered to everyone do not include a Kakuro. Subscribers get the puzzle archive, with thousands of past games, plus streaks for solving every day and achievements.
How to play Telegraph Kakuro
- Open today's Kakuro in Telegraph Puzzles on the web or in the app.
- Read the clue for each run of white squares: the total its digits must make.
- Fill the squares with digits from 1 to 9 so every across and down run adds up to its clue.
- Complete the grid to keep your daily streak.
Tips
- Start with runs that allow only one set of digits, such as two squares that must make 3 (1 and 2) or 4 (1 and 3).
- Where an across and a down run cross, the shared square must suit both totals.
- Use the long runs with very high or very low totals to pin down big and small digits.
