Swapple #538 Daily Easy for 20 October 2026 on desktop: a scrambled 5x5 letter grid in green, yellow and grey, 11 swaps for 5 stars, best possible 9

Swapple is a daily word grid from nibble.games, the site behind MapTap and Noggle. You drag letters to swap them until every row and column spells a word, with green and yellow tiles as guides. Each day brings a numbered 5x5 Daily Easy and a larger Daily Hard, and fewer swaps earn more stars.

About Swapple

Swapple sits on nibble.games beside MapTap, Noggle and Kuromasu. Each puzzle is numbered by the date, counting from 30 April 2025, so Swapple #538 was the puzzle for 20 October 2026. The day's grid is set in advance and the scramble is the same for everyone, and the page will not load any other number than today's, so there is no archive to dip into.

The Daily Easy is a five by five grid of five-letter words running across and down. Drag one letter onto another to swap them. A green tile is in its right place; a yellow one belongs elsewhere in the same row or column; a grey one belongs somewhere else entirely. Under the grid the page says how many swaps earn five stars and the fewest the puzzle can be done in: 11 and 9 on #538.

The Daily Hard is a bigger, cross-shaped grid with six-letter words in the middle rows and shorter words at the top and bottom (13 swaps for five stars and a best of 11 on #538). Finishing the Easy offers a link straight to the day's Hard. When a grid is done the page lists each word with a short definition, your time and your lifetime stars, and you can copy a spoiler-free score to share.

There is an undo button, no account and no ads. It suits players who like Waffle and other letter-swap grids, and anyone who enjoys finding the shortest route to a solution rather than just a solution.

How to play Swapple

  1. Open Swapple on nibble.games and choose Daily Easy or Daily Hard.
  2. Drag one letter onto another to swap the two tiles.
  3. Read the colours: green is in the right place, yellow belongs elsewhere in the same row or column, grey belongs somewhere else.
  4. Keep swapping until every row and column spells a word.
  5. Finish within the target under the grid to earn five stars, read the word definitions, then copy your score to share.

Tips

  • Read the target under the grid first: it tells you the best possible number of swaps.
  • Before swapping, work out which word each row and column must be; random swaps waste moves.
  • A swap that puts two letters into their correct places at once is the most efficient move.
  • Use Undo if a swap was a mistake; it is better than fixing it with extra swaps later.

Questions

Is Swapple the same puzzle for everyone?

Yes. The puzzle number follows the date and each day's grid is set in advance, so all players start from the same scramble.

What is the difference between Easy and Hard?

Easy is a 5x5 grid of five-letter words. Hard is a larger cross-shaped grid with six-letter words in its middle rows and needs a few more swaps.

When does a new Swapple come out?

At midnight by your own device's clock, when the puzzle number goes up by one.

Can I play past puzzles?

No. The page only loads today's number, so each grid can only be played on its day.

Do I need an account?

No. It plays free in the browser with no sign-up and no ads.
