Survivle flips Wordle around: the goal is to lose. You play under a strict hard mode where every revealed clue must be used, and you try to take as many guesses as possible before you are forced onto the secret word. Lasting seven guesses or more counts as a win.
About Survivle
Survivle was made by Jonas (lazyguyy on GitHub) in March 2022, inspired by Wordle and by Absurdle, qntm's adversarial version. It runs as a single free web page on GitHub Pages, with no account and no ads.
The twist is the goal. In Wordle you want the word in as few guesses as possible; here you want to avoid it. That would be easy if you could type anything, so the game enforces an even stricter hard mode than Wordle's: every piece of revealed information must be used in each new guess, with green letters kept in place, yellow letters included somewhere else and grey letters left out. Because tracking all of that is hard, the game tells you exactly what is wrong with a guess that breaks the rules.
The daily word is the same for everyone and changes at midnight on your own device. Words come from a list of 2,309 five-letter answers, stepped through in an order different from the New York Times one, so a word does not come back for about six years. The options menu shows yesterday's daily word.
You win by reaching a score of seven or more, the point at which you would have lost at Wordle. The maker says it is harder than it sounds. After the word is found a stats page opens with your spread of scores and win rate, kept on your device, and a Share button copies your result.
Besides the daily word there is a random game behind the refresh button, but only daily games count towards the stats. It suits Wordle regulars who want a contrarian daily challenge that rewards careful thinking about which letters to keep in play.
How to play Survivle
- Enter a five-letter word as your first guess and press Enter.
- Read the colours as in Wordle: green is the right letter in the right spot, yellow is in the word elsewhere, grey is not in the word.
- Make each next guess use every clue revealed so far; the game names any rule a guess breaks.
- Keep guessing for as long as you can without landing on the secret word.
- Reach seven or more guesses before you are forced onto the word to win, then share your score.

Tips
- Early on, choose guesses with uncommon letters so fewer clues pin the word down.
- Before each guess, count the words that still fit your clues and pick one that leaves several of them open.
- Read the game's warning before submitting: a guess that drops a yellow letter is refused.
Questions
How do I win at Survivle?
Take seven or more guesses before you are forced to enter the secret word. Six or fewer counts as a loss, the reverse of Wordle.
Can I guess any word?
No. Every guess must use all the clues so far: green letters stay in place, yellow letters must appear in another spot and grey letters are left out. The game tells you what a guess breaks.
When does the daily word change?
At midnight on your device, by its local date. Everyone on the same date gets the same word.
Is there more than one game a day?
The refresh button starts a random game as often as you like, but only the daily word counts in your stats.
