Stars on Inkwell Games for Saturday 3 October: an empty 10x10 Star Battle grid divided into bordered regions, with the weekday picker, Undo, Hint and Check

Stars is Inkwell Games' daily Star Battle puzzle, the two-star kind. You place exactly two stars in each row, each column and each black-bordered region, and no two stars may touch, not even diagonally.

About Stars (Inkwell Games)

Stars is one of the daily logic puzzles on Inkwell Games, beside Loopy River and Mosaic, pitched as a daily puzzle for your left brain. Each day there is one grid, the same for every player, divided into black-bordered regions.

The rule is the two-star version of Star Battle: every row, every column and every region needs exactly two stars, and stars cannot touch each other, not even diagonally. You place stars and mark impossible cells with an X until the grid is complete.

An interactive tutorial teaches the key deductions: a three-cell region that needs two stars must have them at both ends, cells around a star can be crossed out, three empty cells in a row needing two stars rule out the middle one, and a 2x2 box can hold at most one star.

It suits fans of Queens and one-star Star Battle who want a harder daily step up.

How to play Stars (Inkwell Games)

  1. Look at the grid and its black-bordered regions.
  2. Place two stars in every row, column and region.
  3. Never let two stars touch, even diagonally.
  4. Mark cells that cannot hold a star with an X.
  5. Fill all the stars to solve the grid.

Tips

  • Small regions force stars to their ends.
  • Cross out all eight neighbours of every star you place.
  • Any 2x2 box can hold at most one star.
