A Scuotes board on Satire Saturday: a grid of scrambled letter tiles with the timer and move count above and the Get Clue, Get Hint and Give Up buttons below

Scuotes is a daily quote puzzle from Lost Art Games. Each day it scrambles the letters of a well-known line from film, TV, sport or history across the whole quote, keeping the word shapes, and you put the letters back using Who, When and Where clues and up to three letter hints, aiming for the fewest moves and the fastest time.

About Scuotes

Scuotes (scrambled plus quotes) takes a line that shaped culture and hides it. The quote sits in a grid with its words in their places, but its letters are shuffled across the whole quote, so a word can hold letters that belong to another. You put them right one move at a time. Three context clues help, opened one by one with Get Clue: Who said it, When and Where. If you are stuck, Get Hint reveals a letter you have not placed, up to three a puzzle.

Every day has its own theme, so the week has a rhythm: Sports Sunday, Movie Monday, TV Tuesday, Wildcard Wednesday, Throwback Thursday with quotes over a hundred years old, Freaky Friday for horror and the spooky, and Satire Saturday for sharp wit and commentary. Everyone gets the same quote each day. There is no points score; instead there are two daily leaderboards, one ranked by time and one by fewest moves. A Give Up button shows the answer, but you get no ranking that day.

The daily is free with no sign-up and no ads. Signing in tracks your results, and Lost Art Games' paid Squads (a 30-day free trial, then a few dollars a year per member) add a private leaderboard and a calendar of past puzzles.

Scuotes is one of six dailies from Lost Art Games, along with Letterbox, D3C1PH3R, fanimoji, 29GO and alikely. It suits players who like cryptograms and quote puzzles and enjoy a nudge of trivia in the clues.

How to play Scuotes

  1. Open the day's Scuotes and note the theme in the yellow bar.
  2. Look at the grid: the words keep their lengths, but their letters are scrambled across the whole quote.
  3. Press Get Clue to reveal Who said it, then When and Where, if you need them.
  4. Put the letters back in place; each letter guess counts as a move.
  5. Press Get Hint to reveal a letter, up to three times, or Give Up to see the answer without a ranking.
  6. Finish the quote and see where you rank by time and by moves.

Tips

  • Short words like A, I, MY and THE are the quickest way in.
  • Read the theme first, then open the Who clue: on TV Tuesday a character's name often brings the line to mind at once.
  • Each guess counts on the moves leaderboard, so think before you place a letter.
