Scooch is a free daily word puzzle. Each day you get a board of letter tiles and slide them around until every row spells one of the day's hidden five-letter words, in a two-word Chill puzzle and a three-word Challenge. New puzzles arrive at midnight, your local time.
About Scooch
Scooch gives you ten letter tiles in two rows of five, such as A, E, E, D, L over M, R, S, T, Y in its own tutorial. The letters are all there; they are just in the wrong places. You scooch the tiles around the board until each row spells one of today's hidden words.
Because every letter has to be used and each row must be a real five-letter word, a tile that fits one word may be needed in the other, which is where the puzzle lies.
There are two levels each day. Chill is a board of ten tiles and two words; Challenge is fifteen tiles and three words. A counter keeps track of your scooches, tiles change colour when a row makes a valid word, and hints can show a first letter or a word if you are stuck.
The game plays free in the browser and in an iOS app, with no sign-up, opens with a short how-to-play walkthrough, and has new puzzles at midnight in your own time zone. You can tap a found word for its definition, keep a streak and share your result without spoilers.
It suits players who like anagrams and tile puzzles and want something that takes a few minutes.
How to play Scooch
- Open Scooch and choose Play in browser, or open the iOS app.
- Pick Chill (two words) or Challenge (three words) and press Start.
- Slide the letter tiles into new positions; each move counts as a scooch.
- Arrange every tile so each row is one of the day's hidden five-letter words, in as few scooches as you can.

Tips
- Place the rare letters first; they have the fewest homes.
- Count vowels: each word needs at least one, so split them between rows.
- Try common endings such as -ER, -ED or -Y to anchor a word.
