Revealed's puzzle for Oct 18, 2026 (Arts & Culture): a Britannica article with its key words in dark blocks, seven empty title boxes, and Reveals, Hints and Guess below

Revealed is Britannica's daily hidden-article puzzle. Each day shows a short encyclopedia entry with its subject and key words blacked out and only a category to go on. Tap blocks to reveal words, earn a hint every two reveals, and guess the topic whenever you think you know it.

About Revealed (Britannica)

Revealed is a daily puzzle from Encyclopaedia Britannica, played in the browser on britannica.com. Each day's puzzle is dated and tagged with a broad category such as Arts & Culture, Science & Tech or Animals & Nature. Below the category sits the subject's name as a row of empty letter boxes, and under that a short Britannica entry in which the small linking words are shown and every meaningful word is a dark block. Places where the subject's own name appears are shown as paler blocks, so you can see how often the article mentions it.

You spend Reveals by tapping a block and confirming, which uncovers that one word. Every two reveals earn a Hint. You can press Guess at any time without penalty and type the topic; a right answer uncovers the whole article. On 18 October 2026 the entry described a brittle, glazed and salted snack of German or Alsatian origin, twisted into a loose knot and sold from pushcarts: the answer was pretzel, and one revealed word (German) was enough.

After solving, a Results tab compares your Reveals and Hints with the average of other players and the share who solved it, keeps lifetime stats with a solve rate and streaks, and offers a Share button. An Archive tab lists past days by date and category, so missed puzzles can be played later.

The idea is close to Redactle and Pedantle, but here you uncover words by choosing which block to open rather than by guessing them, and the goal is to name the topic with the least help. It suits players who like trivia and reading for context more than vocabulary. The page carries ads around the game.

How to play Revealed (Britannica)

  1. Open today's Revealed, press Play and note the category and the number of letter boxes in the hidden title.
  2. Read the visible linking words and look at where the paler blocks for the subject's name fall.
  3. Tap a dark block and press Reveal to uncover that word; every two reveals give you a Hint.
  4. Press Guess at any time, type the topic and submit; a wrong guess costs nothing.
  5. When you name it, the article opens in full and the Results tab shows your Reveals and Hints against other players.

Tips

  • Read the sentence structure before revealing anything: phrases like 'of German origin' or 'sold from pushcarts' narrow things down for free.
  • Count the letter boxes in the title; it rules out many guesses at once.
  • Reveal words next to the subject's name or in the first sentence, where the article defines it.
  • Guess early, since wrong guesses carry no penalty.
