Play Rackle

on rackle.app

Rackle #156 being played on a desktop: the 7x7 board with the tiles A, S and I placed in a row, and the rest of the day's 14-tile rack beside it with shuffle, undo, clear, check and share buttons

Rackle is a free daily word-grid puzzle. Each day gives everyone the same rack of 14 letter tiles, and you place them on a 7x7 board so that every tile is used and all the words of three letters or more connect, crossword style. You have five attempts, and daily scores feed a weekly leaderboard.

About Rackle

Rackle starts from a rack of letter tiles, like a word board game, and asks you to use all of them. You drag or tap tiles onto a 7x7 board to form words that read across and down and join into one connected grid of at least three words. Every word must have three or more letters, so two-letter joins do not help. There is no single right answer: any grid that uses every tile and connects is a solution.

You get five attempts at the day's rack. Scoring rewards finishing in fewer attempts, and a Perfect Word bonus goes to a grid that includes one continuous 7-letter word. Your streak, stats and best daily score are kept in the browser, with no account needed to play.

The puzzle is numbered and changes at midnight UTC, the same for every player, with a countdown to the next one on the page. Solving it lets you join that week's leaderboard under a username; once you have played, you can replay the day's rack for practice without it counting. Rackle was created by Jay.

It suits players who like building words rather than guessing them, in the spirit of a small daily crossword you design yourself from a fixed set of letters. The page is clean and plays the same on a phone, with the rack below the board, as on a desktop.

How to play Rackle

  1. Open rackle.app to see today's rack of 14 letter tiles.
  2. Drag a tile onto the 7x7 board, or tap a tile to place it at the highlighted square; tap a placed tile to keep building from it.
  3. Spell words of three letters or more across and down.
  4. Connect your words so they form one grid of at least three words.
  5. Use every tile, then press the check button; you have five attempts.
  6. Share your result and add a username to join the weekly leaderboard.

Tips

  • Look for a 7-letter word in the rack first; it earns the Perfect Word bonus and fills a whole row.
  • Place awkward letters such as J, Q or V early, before the board fills up.
  • Short linking words of two or three letters help join longer words.
  • Use the shuffle button to rearrange the rack when you are stuck; seeing the letters in a new order often shows a word.
