Quadragonle #1010 Easy grid in play: a 4x4 board of coloured triangles, a diamond and a hexagon with letters filled in, the hint buttons and an on-screen keyboard

Quadragonle is a daily word puzzle that crosses a codeword with a tiny word square. Each 4x4 grid is filled with coloured shapes, each standing for one letter, and you work out the code until all four rows and all four columns are words. There are four grids a day, from Easy to Expert, with an archive of past days.

About Quadragonle

Every Quadragonle grid is a word square in disguise. The sixteen cells hold coloured shapes such as triangles, diamonds and hexagons, and the same shape always stands for the same letter. A few letters are already shown. When it is solved, the four rows and the four columns are all ordinary four-letter words: the 18 October Easy grid opened with M, T and E in its top row and finished as MATE, ARIA, TENT and HATS across, MATH, AREA, TINT and EATS down.

The game comes from Polygonle LLC, the makers of Polygonle, and its numbered puzzles started in January 2024. Each day brings four grids at once, Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert, the same for everyone. You press Play to start the clock, pick a tile and type a letter, and every tile with that shape fills in. Five hints help when you are stuck: reveal one tile, an oracle that clears wrong letters and confirms right ones, a keyboard hint that marks some letters in and out of the puzzle, two crossword clues, and a vowel check on up to four tiles.

A finished grid shows your time, your streak and your statistics for each level, and the result can be shared with the puzzle number, time and hints used. An archive opens earlier days, and a Prev button steps back one puzzle. The game is free and needs no account, but the page carries display ads beside the board on a computer and a banner below it on a phone.

It suits players who like codewords and small crosswords and enjoy finding letters from repeated patterns, with Easy for a two-minute warm-up and Expert for a longer think.

Tips

  • Start with the row or column that already shows the most letters.
  • A shape that repeats in one word often stands for a vowel or a doubled letter.
  • A shape that ends several rows or columns is often S.
  • The vowel hint is cheap help on Expert: it tells vowels from consonants without giving letters away.
