Mineswifter's Daily Challenge for 20 Oct 2026 in play: a 22x12 board with 63 mines, the opening corner uncovered and two mines flagged

Mineswifter is a modern Minesweeper by Michael McFadden in which every board can be solved by logic, with no 50/50 guesses and no game over. Besides the Easy, Normal and Advanced sizes, it has a Daily Challenge board for each date, with recent days listed for catching up.

About Mineswifter

Mineswifter keeps the rules of Minesweeper: uncover squares, read the numbers that count neighbouring mines, and flag the mines. What it removes is the luck. Boards are checked to be solvable by deduction before you get them, so you never reach the coin-flip where two squares are equally likely to hide a mine. A wrong click is not a game over either: you undo it and carry on, and hints point at the part of the board that can be solved next.

The home screen offers the three standard sizes (Easy 9x9 with 10 mines, Normal 16x16 with 40, Advanced 30x16 with 99) and a Daily Challenges list. Each day gets one board with an unusual shape and density, such as 22x12 with 63 mines or 16x21 with 82, labelled Today, Yesterday and then by date, so you can go back and play days you missed. Opening a day shows how everyone has done on it so far: the share of perfect games, the average time, the best time, and mistakes and hints per game.

Mineswifter comes from Michael McFadden (Bonzai Games). The website is free, shows no ads and needs no account; there is also a paid Mineswifter app for iPhone and iPad with the same daily challenges.

It suits Minesweeper players who are tired of losing to forced guesses, and puzzlers who want a pure logic version with a daily target.

How to play Mineswifter

  1. Open Mineswifter and choose Today under Daily Challenges, then press Play.
  2. Click a square to uncover it; a number shows how many mines touch that square.
  3. Switch to the flag tool (or right-click) to mark squares you have worked out are mines.
  4. Uncover every safe square to finish; if you hit a mine, undo it, and use a hint rather than guessing.

Tips

  • Every board is solvable by logic, so if you think you must guess, look again for a pattern you have missed.
  • Learn the common patterns such as 1-2-1 and 1-2-2-1 along a wall; they come up on every board.
  • Work the edges of open areas first, where the numbers give the most information.
  • Play the Easy board as a warm-up before tackling a dense daily layout.
