Daily Lingo hides a handful of famous phrases, such as 'the early bird catches the worm', in a grid of loose words mixed with decoys. Pick the words that belong together to rebuild each phrase, earning up to three stars for each, and read where the saying really came from once it is solved.
About Daily Lingo
Daily Lingo is a free browser puzzle about famous phrases. Each numbered puzzle lays out a grid of single words: some of them belong to well-known sayings, quotes, film lines or proverbs ("the early bird catches the worm" is the example on the start screen), and the rest are decoys. Your job is to sort out which words go together and rebuild every phrase. The game is published by Orcas Labs, which links a few sister games from the menu.
A day's puzzle goes in guesses. You pick four words and submit them, and the game colours each word by the phrase it really belongs to, so even a wrong guess tells you something. You have nine guesses to complete all the phrases, there are no lives, and each phrase earns up to three stars depending on how quickly you pin it down.
The part that sets it apart is what happens after a phrase is solved: the game shows the full saying and a short note on where it comes from, such as the play, film, scientist or old proverb collection behind it, and often how the modern wording drifted from the original. Decoys are chosen to look as if they fit, so careful reading pays.
It suits people who like Connections-style grouping but prefer language and trivia to categories, and anyone curious about the history of everyday expressions. A puzzle takes a few minutes; streaks are tracked, with a streak freeze earned every seven days, and missed days can be played afterwards.
How to play Daily Lingo
- Open daily-lingo.com and press Play today's puzzle.
- Tap four words from the grid that you think belong to the same phrase, then submit.
- Read the colours: words with the same colour belong to the same hidden phrase.
- Use what the colours reveal to complete every phrase within nine guesses.
- Read the origin note for each solved phrase and share your star result.
Tips
- Start with the phrase you are surest of; a clean first guess earns more stars and removes words from the grid.
- Look for the odd connecting words: a proverb's key nouns often rule out decoys that only look related.
- A wrong guess still sorts words into colours, so treat early guesses as a way to map the grid.
Questions
Is Daily Lingo free?
Yes. It runs in the browser with no account.
How many guesses do I get?
Nine guesses to solve all the phrases in the day's grid; there are no lives to lose.
What happens if I miss a day?
