Lettered puzzle 274 on desktop: the category CANT SLEEP ANYWAY over an empty grid with four fixed letters, and a tray of coloured letter pieces below

Lettered is a daily phrase-fitting puzzle. You get a short category clue and a tray of connected letter pieces, like small jigsaw shapes, and you drag them onto a grid until they spell the hidden phrase. Every placement counts as a move, and you are ranked on moves and time on the daily leaderboard, with a harder daily and an endless mode besides.

About Lettered

Lettered is a free web puzzle by ajhenry that launched in early 2026 and has put out a numbered puzzle every day since; 21 October 2026 was number 274. Each day has a category, such as 'cant sleep anyway' or 'spoon optional', and a phrase that fits it, cut up into pieces of connected letters. A few letters already sit on the board to get you started.

You drag the pieces from a tray onto the board. A piece can be dropped anywhere, but it belongs in exactly one spot, so the puzzle is part word game and part jigsaw: the shapes of the pieces and the outline of the grid tell you how the letters run, and the category tells you what the phrase might be. Once every piece is home the phrase reads across the grid.

The score is the number of moves you needed and the time it took. Every placement counts as a move, even a wrong one, so guessing the phrase early pays. A daily leaderboard ranks you against everyone who played, streaks reward coming back, and groups let you compare with friends. A separate Daily Hard puzzle with its own category is there for a tougher second round, an endless mode keeps going after both are done, and signed-in players can go back through the archive of past days.

It suits players who like short daily sessions with a spatial twist: most puzzles take a couple of minutes, and the trick is to read the phrase before you finish placing it.

How to play Lettered

  1. Open the daily puzzle and read the category at the top; it hints at the hidden phrase.
  2. Drag a letter piece from the tray onto the grid where you think it belongs; double-tap a placed piece to send it back.
  3. Keep placing pieces; each one fits in only one correct spot, and every placement counts as a move.
  4. Use the hint button if you are stuck, or the reset button to clear the board and start again.
  5. Finish when every piece is placed and the full phrase reads across the board, then try Daily Hard.

Tips

  • Guess the phrase from the category and the first few pieces; it makes the rest quick.
  • Look for pieces whose shapes only fit at the start or end of a word.
  • Fewer moves score better, so think before you drop a piece.
