Landmarkr #384, Name the Country, on a desktop: the first of six pictures, a baked casserole with a golden crust, above the guess box

Landmarkr is a free daily visual geography game. Each puzzle gives a prompt such as Name the Country and six pictures of the same place, shown one at a time. You get one guess per picture, so the fewer you need, the better your result to share.

About Landmarkr

Landmarkr is a picture-based geography game in the browser. Each day's puzzle has a prompt, such as Name the Country or Name the City, and six images that all point to the same place: buildings, streets, landscapes and even its food. The site says all game content is curated and written by people.

You see the first picture and type your guess, choosing from a list as you type. A wrong guess, or a skip, unlocks the next picture, and you have six guesses in all, one per image. Hints are on by default and can be switched off: a wrong country on the right continent, or a wrong city in the right country, is marked in yellow. After the game you can read about each image and share your result.

A new numbered game loads every day at midnight Eastern time, the same for every player. An Archive holds earlier puzzles, and the game can be played in English, Spanish, French and Chinese. The daily is free and needs no account. Optional Packs add themed sets of eight extra games, such as Islands, U.S. States and Bodies of Water; unlocking them needs a Dailies account, and some are paid. There are no ads on the page; the makers ask for support through Ko-fi instead.

How to play Landmarkr

  1. Open Landmarkr and read the day's prompt, such as Name the Country.
  2. Look at the first picture and type your guess, picking from the list.
  3. A wrong guess or a skip reveals the next picture.
  4. Watch the yellow hints: they tell you when a wrong guess is on the right continent or in the right country.
  5. Use up to six guesses, one per picture, then read about the images and share your result.

Tips

  • Look at signs, number plates, architecture and plants before guessing.
  • Skipping costs a guess just like a wrong answer, so take a guess when you have any idea.
  • Play older puzzles in the Archive to practise spotting places.
