A 6x6 KenKen grid in progress with cage targets such as 72x, 3+ and 144x and a number keypad

This is the official KenKen app from KenKen Puzzle, LLC, the company behind the arithmetic logic puzzle that runs in The New York Times. Each day its Daily Challenge sets seven grids, one in every size from 3x3 to 9x9, rising in difficulty through the week. Four of them are free, the app shows ads, and Premium opens the rest along with extra features.

About KenKen Daily Logic Puzzle (official app)

KenKen is a number logic puzzle that appears daily in The New York Times. Like sudoku, each row and column of an N by N grid must contain the numbers 1 to N once. The grid is also divided into outlined cages, each with a target number and an operation such as 72x or 3-, and the numbers in a cage must produce that target with that operation. Every puzzle has a single solution reachable by logic.

This app, released in 2026 by the official KenKen company, is built around a daily routine. The Daily Challenge screen shows the date in a ring of seven buttons, one for each size from 3x3 up to 9x9, and a bar counts how many of the seven you have solved. A beginner can start small while experienced solvers take on the larger grids. As with many newspaper puzzles, difficulty climbs through the week from an easy Monday to tough weekend puzzles.

Solving daily builds a streak that earns achievements and token rewards, and a statistics section tracks average and best times per grid size and recent trends. Outside the dailies you can spend tokens to generate new puzzles at a chosen size, difficulty and set of operations. The developer says four Daily Challenge puzzles are free every day and new players start with 500 tokens. The app carries ads, which a token pack removes, and a Premium subscription costs $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year.

It suits sudoku fans who want arithmetic in the mix, families learning maths, and experts who like racing the clock.

Tips

  • Start with single-cell cages, they are given answers.
  • Large multiplication targets narrow the options quickly.
  • For subtraction and division cages of two cells, list the few possible pairs.
  • Ease in early in the week and save the 9x9 for when you are warmed up.
