How sweet? roughly. share art: the line How sweet, roughly, is it? beside a phone showing day 277, a 1 litre carton of fruit nectar, with empty sugar cube slots for the guess

How sweet? roughly. names a food and a portion, such as a 250 ml glass of orange juice, and asks how much sugar is in it. You pull up a stack of sugar cubes, each one 4 grams, and the reveal shows the real amount next to the daily line the WHO suggests.

About How sweet? roughly.

How sweet? is one of the daily guessing games from roughly., a small site where every game asks for an estimate rather than an exact answer. Here the question is sugar: how much is in an everyday portion of food or drink?

Each day brings five foods, the same for every player. One day might be a piece of chewing gum, a litre of tonic water, a 40 gram bowl of breakfast cereal, a jar of jam and a glass of orange juice. You drag up a stack of sugar cubes until it looks right, or type the number of cubes; halves are allowed. While you guess, no number is shown, only the stack.

The reveal gives the grams of sugar in the portion and how many cubes that makes, compares it with the WHO line of about 25 grams of free sugars a day, which the game draws as six cubes, and shows where your guess sits among real products of that kind. The figures come from Open Food Facts, as a typical value across many products rather than one brand. Your score is how many times too high or low you were, with very small amounts treated alike, and you see what share of players got closer. New rounds arrive at midnight UTC. Today's rounds are free and need no account; past days need the paid roughly+ tier. You can challenge a friend or open a room to play together, in English or German.

How to play How sweet? roughly.

  1. Read the food and the size of the portion.
  2. Pull the stack of sugar cubes up or down, or type a number of cubes; one cube is 4 grams.
  3. Press Lock it in to see the real amount and how it compares with the daily line.
  4. Read the napkin math and where your guess sits among real products.
  5. Play all five, then share your day or challenge a friend.

Tips

  • Mind the portion: a whole jar of jam or a litre of tonic water holds far more than one serving.
  • A food label gives sugar per 100 g or 100 ml; scale that to the portion and divide by 4 for cubes.
  • Savoury foods can hold almost none, so a guess of zero or half a cube is sometimes right.
