The Daily Medium Hidoku on PuzzleMadness for 28 October 2026: a 7x7 grid with givens such as 1, 8, 13, 24, 36 and 49 to link into one chain

PuzzleMadness posts a new Hidoku puzzle every day, the same grid for every player, at several sizes. Complete the grid so the numbers from 1 to the highest form one path, each number touching the next across, down or diagonally. Finished puzzles score points on the site's monthly and all-time leaderboards.

About Hidoku (PuzzleMadness)

Hidoku, also known as Hidato, gives a grid with some numbers filled in. You complete it so that the numbers 1, 2, 3 and so on up to the number of squares form one continuous chain, each one in a square touching the previous one, diagonals included. On a 7x7 grid the chain runs from 1 to 49; on an 8x8 grid to 64.

The daily page opens today's puzzle on its own, and its title carries the date (on 3 October 2026 it read "Daily Medium Hidoku Puzzle for Saturday 3rd October 2026"). There is a separate dated puzzle for each size from Small to Large. The Mixed page is a fourth grid with its own size, so a full day is four puzzles. Past days stay in the archive, so a missed puzzle can be played later, and there is a print version and an image download of the grid. PuzzleMadness does not publish solutions: the site tells you when you have finished a grid correctly or made a mistake. Each completed puzzle adds to your total on the Hidoku monthly and all-time leaderboards, where only your best score on any one puzzle counts.

Look for gaps of one: if 12 and 14 are placed and only one square touches both, 13 goes there. Then look at longer gaps and count whether the distance between the given numbers allows the path. The start is not always at 1; begin wherever the givens are close.

PuzzleMadness is a British puzzle site with dozens of daily puzzle types in the browser, from many sudoku variants to logic grids such as Nurikabe, Hashi and Slitherlink. It is free to play and carries ads. A free account keeps track of the puzzles you have finished and puts your name on the leaderboards, and the badges next to usernames mark how many puzzles a player has completed.

How to play Hidoku (PuzzleMadness)

  1. Open the day's Hidoku page and choose Small, Medium, Large or Mixed. Each one is a different grid.
  2. Find missing numbers that sit between two given numbers with only one shared neighbour.
  3. Extend the chain, each number touching the next, including diagonally.
  4. Fill every square so the numbers run from 1 to the last; the site confirms the solve.

Tips

  • Two given numbers n apart must be no more than n squares apart in king moves.
  • Corners and edges have fewer neighbours, so chains through them are easier to fix.
  • Pencil in candidates for a gap and remove them as the chain grows.

Questions

Is Hidoku the same as Hidato?

Yes, they are names for the same puzzle.

When does the PuzzleMadness Hidoku change?

Once a day: each puzzle is dated, and the daily page opens the current day's grid. The site does not say at what time the new one appears.

Is PuzzleMadness Hidoku free?

Yes. You can play without an account; the site shows ads. A free account records which puzzles you have finished and enters your scores on the leaderboards.

Where can I find the answers?

PuzzleMadness does not publish solutions. It tells you when your grid is complete and correct, and when you have made a mistake.

Can I play earlier Hidoku puzzles?

Yes, older puzzles are in the archive, and puzzles completed on any day count toward that month's leaderboard.
