Hexaboo is a turn-based word game on a honeycomb board. Each turn you swap two neighbouring tiles or spell a word of four letters or more to clear them, while a new letter lands every turn. Each day brings a shared 100-letter Daily Hexaboo and a small themed Mini-Boo to solve within 10 swaps.
About Hexaboo
Hexaboo plays on a honeycomb of hexagonal cells. Letter tiles sit on the board, and on each turn you choose one move: drag a tile onto a neighbour to swap them, or tap touching letters to spell a word of four letters or more and submit it to clear those tiles. Each tile carries a point value, as in a tile word game, so rare letters score more.
Every turn a new letter spawns on the board, and a strip at the side shows the letters coming next. You can pass a turn instead of moving. In the Daily Hexaboo everyone gets the same deck of 100 letters for the date, and the game ends when the deck runs out; in Endless the game ends when the board fills up. There is no timer, so each move can be thought through.
The Daily Mini-Boo is a different, smaller puzzle. Its board starts full with three or four scrambled words on a theme hinted at by the puzzle's title (Puddle Jumper on 20 October 2026), and you have 10 swaps to bring the words together and clear them. It has its own hints and lets you rate the puzzle after solving.
Hexaboo is made by Caryn Vainio of Shadow Dog Games. Version 1.0 came out in February 2026, and the game was rebuilt for the web in the spring with daily streaks, share results and a percentile bar following. It is free with no ads; optional colour themes cost $0.99 each through Ko-fi, and a Say thanks button sits under the board.
It suits players who like planning a few moves ahead, since a swap now sets up a longer word later, and who enjoy word games with some of the feel of a tile-matching game.
How to play Hexaboo
- On the home page, under Today, choose Daily Hexaboo or the Daily Mini-Boo.
- Drag a tile onto a touching tile to swap them.
- Or tap touching letters in order to spell a word of at least four letters, then press Submit or the spacebar.
- In Daily Hexaboo a new letter arrives each turn; press Pass to let it land without moving.
- Keep clearing words until the day's 100 letters run out, then share your score and streak.
- In Mini-Boo, use your 10 swaps to line up the three or four themed words and clear the board.

Tips
- Look at the letters coming up on the side strip before you swap.
- Rare letters such as K, Z and J carry more points, so try to fit them into a word rather than leave them.
- Clear words before the board fills, and keep vowels spread out so each cluster can still make a word.
- In Mini-Boo, read the title first: it hints at the theme of the hidden words.
