Guess the Footballer is Planete Football's free daily player puzzle. You have six guesses to name one mystery professional footballer, and every miss unlocks a new clue in a set order: nationality, position, the decade he starred in, his leagues, his shirt number and finally his club history. Games played and a win rate are kept in your browser, with no account.
About Guess the Footballer (Planete Football)
Planete Football is a football news and games site, and Guess the Footballer is its daily puzzle. There is one shared player a day, the same for everyone, and it changes at midnight UTC. The answers come from a short list of about forty well-known names, from 2000s stars such as Rooney, Drogba and Pirlo to current players such as Haaland, Saka and Rodri, so a regular player will meet the same names again within a few weeks.
You start with nothing but a name box. Type a player (suggestions help), press Guess, and if you are wrong a clue appears. The clues come in a fixed order that makes the puzzle easier the longer it runs: first nationality, then position, then decade, then the leagues he played in, then his best-known shirt number and last his club history. Surnames and common alternatives are accepted.
You have six guesses. Games played, streak and win rate sit at the top of the board, stored in your own browser with no account, and a finished day is remembered if you reload. In October 2026 the stats counted a solved day as a loss, so the streak stayed at 0 and the win rate at 0% even after a win. The page carries Google ads around the board and between its how-to text; the free embed version Planete Football offers to other sites is described as ad-free. A share button copies a spoiler-free summary, and the site links on to a penalty shootout and a football quiz.
It suits fans who know the big names of the last twenty-five years, and it takes about a minute a day.
