Name the day's AFL player in eight guesses, or a VFL/AFL player from any era in fifteen.

Today's AFL Wordle board on 24 October 2026 with two guesses, Marcus Bontempelli and Patrick Dangerfield, marked on club, jumper number and seasons with arrows

AFL Wordle on Draft Challenger is a daily guess-the-player game for Australian rules football. The Wordle board gives eight guesses, each compared with the hidden player on club, jumper number and seasons; the Classic board gives fifteen guesses at a player from the whole VFL/AFL record since 1897, judged against one of their real seasons. Both boards are the same for everyone each day.

About AFL Wordle (Draft Challenger)

AFL Wordle is part of Draft Challenger, a sports site that runs the same pair of daily player boards for several sports and leagues beside its all-time draft game. It calls itself a Wordle in the way that matters: one player a day, a fixed number of attempts and colour-coded rows.

On the Wordle board you type a player's name, pick them from the list and press Guess. The row compares your player with the answer on club, jumper number and seasons played. Each tile is green for a match, gold for close and red for a miss, and arrows on the number and seasons point up or down toward the answer. Eight names is the limit.

Classic is harder. The answer can be any AFL or VFL footballer with a real senior career, from 1897 to last season. The board opens with chips for the era and the year the career started, plus a worked example row (Gary Ablett Jr. on 24 October 2026). After four misses the club's city is revealed, and after seven another exact fact, with the option to open the answer. Each guess is set against the answer's real season on position, season, club, kicks, handballs, disposals, tackles, games and first year, with arrows toward the right numbers.

Both boards change at midnight US Eastern time, which is the afternoon in Melbourne, so Australian and American players share the same day. The two modes keep separate streaks on the device you play on, and there is no unlimited mode; the draft game below the boards has no daily limit. Wordle suits followers of today's lists; Classic suits fans who know the game's history club by club.

How to play AFL Wordle (Draft Challenger)

  1. Open AFL Wordle on draftchallenger.com and choose the Wordle or Classic tab.
  2. Type a player's name, pick them from the list and press Guess.
  3. Read the row: green is a match, gold is close, red is a miss, and arrows point toward the answer's numbers.
  4. In Classic, use the era and career start chips, the club city after four misses and the extra fact after seven.
  5. Name the player within eight guesses on Wordle or fifteen in Classic, then wait for the next board.

Tips

  • In Classic, open with a decorated player from the 1990s or 2000s, as the site itself suggests: the era lands at once and the club list shortens.
  • On the Wordle board, a gold seasons arrow narrows the answer to a few years either side; pair it with the club before chasing the number.
  • A reveal ends the day but does not count as a win, so your streak restarts.
