Griddle #1756 for 22 October 2026: a 7x7 board of double and triple letter squares above a rack of 21 scored letter tiles, red bonus tiles N and U among them

Griddle is a one-a-day word game in which everyone gets the same 7x7 grid and the same rack of 21 lettered tiles. You arrange the tiles into words that cross and connect, aiming your best letters at the double and triple letter squares and using the bonus tiles, then compare your score with boards from around the world.

About Griddle

Griddle gives you a seven by seven board scattered with double and triple letter squares, and a rack of 21 letter tiles in three rows, each marked with its point value. Some tiles carry bonuses of their own: blue tiles are worth more than usual, red tiles multiply the word they sit in, and yellow tiles add points to every tile in their word. A blank tile is a space, not a wildcard, and lets you join two short words into one longer one.

There is no turn order and no opponent. You have the whole rack at once and drag tiles on and off the board as often as you like; the score and every word on the board update as you go, and a tile used in two crossing words counts in both. Once most of your letters are used a Submit button appears, and submitting locks in the layout and puts it on the global scoreboard, where you can look through other players' boards for the day.

Every board is numbered from #1 on 1 January 2022, and the same board goes to everyone on a given date. Random Board in the menu picks a past board you have not played yet. An Assistant mode helps find words that fit the tiles already placed, and snapshots let you keep one layout while you try another.

Griddle is made by M. Treaster and runs in the browser with no account and no ads; you can export and import your data to move to another device. It suits players who like Scrabble's scoring but would rather spend ten quiet minutes polishing one layout than race a clock or an opponent.

How to play Griddle

  1. Press Play on the day's board and look at the bonus squares and your rack of 21 tiles.
  2. Drag tiles from the rack onto the board to spell words that read across or down.
  3. Keep every word connected and valid; crossing words share the tile where they meet.
  4. Tap undo to take back a move, or long-press it to recall every tile, and rearrange until your score is as high as you can get it.
  5. When the Submit button appears, submit your board, then compare it with other players' layouts for the day.

Tips

  • Put your highest-value letters on triple letter squares, and put red bonus tiles in your longest word, since they multiply the whole word.
  • A tile that sits in two crossing words counts twice, so build crossings around your best letters.
  • Look at the scoreboard after you submit: other players' boards often show a word or placement you missed.
  • Use the built-in Assistant to find words that fit a pattern of tiles already on the board.
  • A blank tile is a space, not a wildcard: use it to join two short words into one longer word that crosses more bonus squares.

Questions

Is the Griddle board the same for everyone?

Yes. Each day's board, bonus squares and tiles are the same for every player, which is what makes the scoreboard comparable.

When does Griddle reset?

A new board comes at midnight on your device's date; the settings let you choose a later time to switch to the next board.

Can I play old Griddle boards?

Yes. Random Board in the menu picks a past board you have not played yet.

Does Griddle have ads?

No. The game page loads no ad scripts or ad slots, and needs no account; the maker takes support through Ko-fi.
