Forgle's Tectonic No. 118 on 20 October 2026: a five by five letter grid with up and down arrows on each column, 0 shifts and par 4

Forgle is a little foundry of daily word puzzles: four of them, a new one of each every day. Shrink a word letter by letter, split a portmanteau, find the word that links fragments and shift columns until five words line up, then share one combined result.

About Forgle

Forgle puts four different word puzzles side by side on one page and counts how many of today's four you have finished. A countdown shows when the next global puzzle arrives, at midnight UTC, and each puzzle carries its own number.

Decay starts from a word and asks you to drop one letter at a time and rearrange the rest into a smaller word, down to the day's target length; a wrong word adds a strike and a hint is marked on your result. Blend gives you a portmanteau, such as brunch, and you name the two words it was forged from. Blend gives four tries, and a short clue sits under the letters. Nexus shows four fragments and asks for the one word that turns each into a compound word or familiar phrase, within six guesses.

Tectonic is a five by five letter grid where each column keeps its letters in order but can rotate up or down and wrap around. You shift the columns until all five rows spell five-letter words at once, against a par number of shifts.

Each puzzle has a calendar of earlier days, which open in a practice mode that leaves your streak alone, its own stats and a hint button, and when you finish all four you can share a combined result. It suits players who like a short set of varied word puzzles rather than one long one.

There is no account and no sign-up: progress and streaks stay in your browser, and the pages carry no advertising.

How to play Forgle

  1. Open Forgle and pick one of the day's four puzzles.
  2. Decay: drop a letter and rearrange to a shorter word, as far down as you can go.
  3. Blend: name the two words the portmanteau was made from.
  4. Nexus: find the single word that links every fragment.
  5. Tectonic: shift the columns until all five rows are words, close to par, then share your combined result.

Tips

  • In Tectonic, a row lights up when it spells a word, so lock in one row and work around it.
  • In Decay, drop awkward letters like J, Q or X early.
  • In Nexus, try the linking word both before and after each fragment.

Questions

When do new Forgle puzzles appear?

All four change for everyone at 00:00 UTC, and the home page counts down to the next one.

Can I play earlier Forgle puzzles?

Yes. Each puzzle's calendar opens past days back to 25 June 2026, and a random past puzzle link is there too. They play in a practice mode that does not change your daily streak or stats.

Do I need an account?

No. Forgle keeps your progress, streak and statistics in your browser, with no name or email asked.
