Flipping Letters is a Wordle-style daily word game played from a bank of ten letter tiles instead of a keyboard. Some tiles can be spun 180 degrees to show another letter, so a b may really be a q, or an n a u; find the day's word in five guesses using colour feedback.

About Flipping Letters

Flipping Letters gives you a bank of ten letter tiles instead of a full keyboard, and the day's five-letter word can only be spelled from them. Some tiles carry a spin button: rotate them 180 degrees and they show a different letter, the way a lower-case d upside down reads as p, or an m becomes a w.

You build guesses from the tiles, spinning them as needed, and you have five tries. The game colours each letter in the familiar way: green for the right letter in the right place, yellow for a letter in the word but elsewhere, grey for a letter not in it. The tiles in the bank take the same colours, so you can see which ones are still worth trying. Working out which side of each spinning tile the answer needs is half the puzzle.

There is one numbered word a day, the same for every player and set by the UTC date. The game keeps your played count, win rate and streaks in your browser and lets you share a spoiler-free result. A Past Words page looks back at some earlier answers with a definition and a piece of trivia for each.

Flipping Letters is made by Two Way Media, the UK studio behind the Two Words app with Susie Dent, and launched in spring 2026. It is free, needs no account and shows no ads beyond a banner for the studio's own app. It suits Wordle players who want a smaller set of letters to reason about and anyone who likes visual letter tricks.

How to play Flipping Letters

  1. Open flippingletters.com and look at today's ten letter tiles.
  2. Tap tiles (or type) to build a five-letter guess; tap a tile's spin button first to use the letter on its other side.
  3. Press Submit and read the colours: green is the right place, yellow is in the word elsewhere, grey is not in the word.
  4. Use the coloured tiles in the bank to plan the next guess, and find the word within five tries.
  5. Share your result or check your streak in the stats.

Tips

  • Check which tiles can spin before your first guess; they widen your choices.
  • Common pairs when spun: d and p, b and q, n and u, m and w.
  • With only five guesses, make the first one use as many different tiles as you can.
  • If no word fits the letters left, try the other side of a spinning tile.

Questions

Is it the same word for everyone?

Yes. The word is set by the UTC date and each day's puzzle is numbered.

What does spinning a tile do?

It rotates the tile 180 degrees, showing a different letter, such as b to q or n to u.

How many guesses do I get?

Five.

When is there a new word?

At midnight UTC, when the UTC date changes.

Can I play past days?

No. The Past Words page shows some earlier answers with trivia, but only today's puzzle can be played.
