Elemingle #634 on desktop: a Gallium card with its stats and trivia beside the periodic table, the range narrowed to a few squares

Elemingle is a daily chemistry game from Trainwreck Labs. You get a shuffled deck with a card for every element, each showing facts and trivia but not its atomic number, and you swipe each card left if it is too low, right if it is too high, or up when you think it is the day's Mystery Element.

About Elemingle

Elemingle turns the periodic table into a deck of illustrated cards. Every element has its own cartoon character, drawn by the artist Jean Estevez (Art Toon), and its card lists the atomic weight, boiling point, melting point, electronegativity or density, plus three short lines of trivia written as the element talking about itself. What a card never shows is the atomic number.

There is one Mystery Element a day, the same for everyone, and each day's game is numbered. The deck comes shuffled. For the card on top, you swipe left if its element is lower in atomic number than the mystery one, right if it is higher, and up if you think it is the answer. Each correct higher or lower call narrows the range, which the periodic table beside the deck shows with coloured borders and greyed-out squares. You can also type a guess straight into the Guess answer form. The aim is to find the element with as few mistakes as you can; there is no give-up button.

The game is made by Trainwreck Labs, a studio of free daily educational games. A short demo deck teaches the swipes the first time, a profile page keeps your plays, wins and streak, and a Practice mode gives unlimited extra rounds. The game can be switched to English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese or Romanian. It suits chemistry students and anyone who likes Elementle but would rather read clues and narrow a range than compare table columns.

How to play Elemingle

  1. Open Elemingle and press the logo to start today's game.
  2. Swipe through the short demo deck, or use the arrow keys, to learn the three swipes.
  3. Read the top card: its element's weight, temperatures and trivia, without the atomic number.
  4. Swipe left (or press the left arrow) if the card's element is too low, right if it is too high, and up if you think it is the Mystery Element.
  5. Watch the periodic table narrow to the elements still in range, or type a guess in the Guess answer form.
  6. Find the Mystery Element with as few wrong calls as you can.

Tips

  • Atomic weight rises with atomic number almost everywhere, so the weight on each card is the best guide to which way to swipe.
  • The card's background colour gives its category (noble gas, transition metal, lanthanide and so on), which places it on the table.
  • Turn on Show symbols in the profile settings if the icons on the cards are hard to read.
  • Once the range is small, use Guess answer rather than waiting for the right card to come up.

Questions

Is the Mystery Element the same for everyone?

Yes. There is one numbered Mystery Element a day for every player.

When does a new element arrive?

At midnight UTC; the home page counts down to the next game.

What do the cards show?

Atomic weight, boiling and melting points, electronegativity or density, and trivia lines, but never the atomic number.

Can I run out of guesses?

Only after 1000 guesses, which the game's FAQ says should be more than enough.

Can I play more than once a day?

Yes. Practice mode, on the profile page, gives unlimited rounds besides the daily one.

Do I need an account?

No. The daily plays without one; a Trainwreck Labs account is optional.
