Droplet on Greatest Games: an empty six-column board with letter and word bonus squares, a falling E tile, T and R next in line, score 0 and three lives

Droplet is a daily falling-tile word game with a nod to Tetris. Letter tiles drop from columns fixed by the date, so every player gets the same run, and you steer each one on the way down to spell words of three to eight letters across or down. Letter values, bonus squares and long words score points; three full columns end the game.

About Droplet

Droplet drops one letter tile at a time onto a board. Each tile falls from a column you do not choose, though you can steer it as it falls, and the order of exits is fixed by the date, so everyone faces the same run and scores can be compared. You spell words of three to eight letters in straight lines, left to right across a row or top to bottom down a column; no diagonals and no reading backwards.

A word of four letters or more clears itself as soon as it is spelled. A three-letter word lights up and waits for you to tap it, so you can bank it or try to make it longer, since OATS is worth far more than OAT. Tiles score their letter values, with extra points for longer words, bonus squares from double letter to quadruple word, double points for two words in one drop and 50 for a word of seven letters or more. A star tile stands in for any letter, and Hold lets you park a tile for later. If a column reaches the top you lose a life, and three lost lives end the game.

Droplet is one of the daily games on Greatest Games, a site of word and logic puzzles. A new puzzle goes up every day at midnight US Eastern, the same for everyone, and it plays free in the browser with no account or download. A free account opens the Droplet archive of every past puzzle by date.

How to play Droplet

  1. Open Droplet on greatest.games and watch the first tile fall.
  2. Steer it as it drops to place it where you want.
  3. Spell words of three to eight letters across a row or down a column.
  4. Tap three-letter words to bank them, or leave them to grow longer.
  5. Use Hold and the star tile wisely, and keep columns from reaching the top.

Tips

  • Build toward bonus squares; a long word on a word multiplier scores heavily.
  • Keep a star tile in Hold until it completes a high-value word.
  • Clear tall columns first; a full column costs a life.
  • Watch the Next preview to plan two drops ahead.

Yes. The column each tile drops from is fixed by the date, so every player gets the same sequence.

Why does a three-letter word not clear?

It waits for you to tap it, so you can bank it or extend it into a longer, higher-scoring word.

How do I lose?

A column reaching the top costs a life, and three lost lives end the game.

When does Droplet reset?

Every day at midnight US Eastern Time, with the same puzzle for everyone.

Is Droplet free?
