Doctordle board for 20 October 2026: a 64-year-old woman confused after surgery, a second clue shown after a wrong guess of Heat Stroke, four rows still empty

Doctordle is a daily diagnosis game. Each day you get the opening line of one clinical case, such as a patient who turns confused after surgery, and pick a diagnosis from the game's list of diseases; each wrong guess brings another clue, up to six in all.

About Doctordle

Doctordle turns a clinical vignette into a daily guessing game. The team behind it is made up of medical students, with a team lead, a developer, a medical education editor and a clue maker for each day of the week, so every case is written by hand. The first case went up on 16 July 2025, and a new one has followed every day since.

Each day there is one case, the same for every player. It starts with a single line about the patient. You start typing a diagnosis and choose it from the list that drops down, since only diseases on the game's list are accepted; a wrong answer, or a blank one, opens the next clue, filling in history, examination findings and test results until you get it or run out of rows. When you finish, a diagnosis summary explains the condition; the site says that summary is drawn up with AI from published medical literature, while the cases themselves come from the team.

For students preparing for the USMLE, buttons copy ready-made Anki tags for Step 1 and Step 2 that pull up related cards in the AnKing deck. Past cases can be played from the archive, results can be copied to share, and a free account keeps your streak and stats across devices, though the daily plays without one. The site shows ads beside the board and says it is for entertainment only, not medical advice.

It suits medical, nursing and other health students, clinicians who want a morning warm-up, and anyone curious about how a diagnosis is reached one finding at a time.

How to play Doctordle

  1. Open doctordle.org, answer the privacy notice and accept the cookie notice to play.
  2. Read the first clue about today's patient.
  3. Start typing a diagnosis and pick it from the drop-down list of diseases, then press Submit; a wrong or blank answer reveals the next clue.
  4. Name the diagnosis within six clues, then open the diagnosis summary and, if you study with Anki, copy the Step 1 or Step 2 tag.

Tips

  • Note the age, sex and setting in the first clue: they narrow the possibilities a lot.
  • Think of the most common cause first, then adjust as findings arrive.
  • Submitting a blank answer shows the next clue when you have no good guess yet.
  • Use the Anki tags afterwards to review the topic.
